It's Here!

The new bed arrived yesterday.  There was much excitement as we waited for the unveiling.

"Oh, this looks nice!"

"Yep, I fit...sorta."

"I can't seem to get all my legs on it."

"This could be a problem."

"There is enough room to chew my bladder sticks."

"It feels nice on my neck.  I just wish all my legs fit."

"Scout doesn't seem to fit either."

"I think she likes it even though she is giving her Eeyore look."

"Yep, she likes it."

"Our dinette bed has been upgraded with memory foam and I just can't keep the covers on it. The folks had three layers of memory foam on their bed and that was just was too much memory for them."
I do like my new bed.  I roached on it yesterday but the camera didn't catch me.

The bed came from Costco.  Mama ordered it online, but she heard that some stores carried it. She doesn't have a membership, so she just ordered it online. The shipping was free. Here are the details of the bed:

Attractive and stylish pillow top orthopedic bed provides the ultimate in support and comfort.  The orthopedic memory foam bottom with cooling gel increases airflow and cooling, while the pillow top design provides extra cushion for comfort and nesting.  The cover zips off for easy washing.
  • Color: Taupe Elephant Skin Faux Suede Top and Gusset
  • Solid Polyester Bottom
  • Bottom filled with 100% Polyurethane Memory Foam with cooling gel
  • Pillow Top filled with 100% Polyester fiberfill
  • YKK zippers
  • Dimensions: 36” x 40”

Brand: Kirkland Signature

Mama likes that the bed seems to have a lot of support. She read reviews on  the bed and people who have had it for three months said that it still looks new.  We hope so.  The other beds are now in the basement of the motor home and we will use those when we are outside.

Nope, we are not being endorsed for talking about our new bed.  Costco and Kirkland have no clue who we are.  BOL!

Learning About Barbed Wire

BOL!  We thought that might get your attention.  No, we didn't run into any barbed wire.  The folks toured a home yesterday whose owner started a barbed wire factory here in 1874.  He became one of the wealthiest men in Illinois.

Barbed wire

There are over 1,000 patents for barbed wire.  Here are some examples.  Yep, they are all different.
The folks toured the mansion and it was BEAUTIFUL.  Mama was disappointed because they do not allow indoor photography.  :-(   It was just the folks and the tour guide on the tour and Mama got really excited when she saw a small greyhound statue inside.  She really wanted to take a photo of it, but she was good.

The flower garden.

Mrs. Ellwood's craft and collectibles house.
The old water tower.
This is what the property used to look like.  The water tower has changed over the years.
The folks thought the house tour was really interesting.  Mama really wishes she could show you what the inside looks like.  They were able to tour three floors and luckily it was not a hot day yesterday as the house does not have air conditioning.

Scout and I were very tired yesterday from our big day out on Saturday.  Mama woke us up at 7 a.m. and told us to get our butts out of bed.

Our new bed is scheduled to arrive today.  GULP!

Mutt Strut

Today we went to the Mutt Strut and it was FUN!  There were dogs everywhere and lots of activities going on.  We headed straight for the area where Greyhounds Only had their tent.  Miss Donna from the group has been emailing Mama and we finally were able to meet her in person.

A flyer announced that we were there!  We were celebrities for the day.
Me. Scout, Bryn and Scout.  Yep, another Scout and she is a girl, too! Bryn and Scout live with Miss Donna.
This is King Kong.  He weighs 96 pounds, but his racing weight was 106.  He looked taller in person than this picture shows.  He is a nice guy and loves to lean.
Mama said I was a really good boy.  I tried to get all the other dogs to play with me even little dogs.  I made people laugh.  I had fun!  Did I say that already?  BOL!

We got tired, of course.

Scout spun the wheel at the Petco table.  She won a tennis ball.  I know a certain greyhound, Flattery, that would have been very excited to win that.

There were pools for us to drink from, but we preferred standing in and them and then we got drinks.

Scout had to step in everyone of them.

Scout watched some dog shaped balloon fly away.
The Greyhounds Only group made us feel very welcomed.  We talked about our travels and living in a motor home as well as greyhounds, of course. They invited us to more events and we will probably attend some.  I think Mama and Dad had as much fun as we did.

Buddy Got Mail

Buddy, the scooter, got mail. Can you believe that?  His accessories arrived.  He still doesn't have plates though.  BOL!

Buddy now has a cup holder and a little storage area. Mama forgot to take a before photo.  Basically there was just an open area that you could store stuff, but it didn't seem very practical or safe.

The cup holder can come out and then it will hold bigger drinks.  Above the drink holder is a cell phone charger.  Above the closed storage area is a bag holder.

The storage area is small, but it will hold a wallet, cell phone, camera or maybe a GPS.  Mama thinks she needs to have a GPS with her just in case she gets lost.

Buddy now has a snazzy cover instead of a blue tarp.
The campground owner told Mama that she is looking good on the scooter.  Mama asked if she looked scared and she told her no.  BOL!  Actually, Mama is gaining confidence and is ready to hit the streets, but it will probably be another week before the plates arrive.

Dad said he saw a lady older than Mama riding a scooter. She was stopped at a light.
Mama:  "Did she looked scared?"
Dad: "No"
Mama: "What color was her scooter?"
Dad: "White"
Mama: "Did she have both feet on the ground or just one?"
Dad:  "Both"
Mama: "Was she wearing a helmet?"
Dad:  "Yes, a full face helmet."
Mama:  "Hmmm, older than me?"
Dad:  "Yep"

Dad is not much of a talker, but he was excited to tell Mama about the lady on the scooter.

We are going to the Mutt Strut tomorrow. We are not "mutts" and we don't "strut", but we are still going.  BOL!

Computer and Bed Woes

We were surprised this morning to find out that we are the "Blog of the Week" on Mac and Maisie - The Dog Blog.  Mac and Maisie are from Scotland. They were both waiting for their forever home for over a year.  Their new parents only planned on adopting one greyhound, but when they saw that Mac & Maisie were best friends, they adopted both of them.  They have only been in their forever home since August so they are still experiencing a lot of firsts.  Congrats on you new home Mac & Maisie and thank you for reading our blog!

Yesterday, we had computer problems.  Something seemed to happened in Firefox.  We lost all our bookmarks which meant we also lost all our passwords.  Mama was upset by that but then something worse happen.  Our email quit working.  The problem started at 10 a.m. and she finally had things back in order at 7:30 p.m.  However, our email is currently downloading over 3,000 emails, so we may still be facing some issues.  BOL!

Well friends, it appears our bed it being replaced.  Mama ordered us a new one yesterday.  YIKES!  It does not have the bolster and that has us concerned.  Three other greyhounds recommend this new bed, so we hope they know what they are talking about.  Our standards may be higher than theirs.  The main reason we are replacing it is because the cover does not come off for washing.  Mama thought she could put it in a washing machine, but it doesn't fit.  She took it to the laundromat here and it wouldn't fit. It is a commercial front loader.  Well, it probably could have been shoved in there, but she didn't want to break the machine.  The one bed has a really bad odor to it and it stays in the basement of the motor home and only comes out if we are sitting outside.  The bed in here isn't so bad, but it looks pretty nasty.  Mama has been saving her money for a new bed for us. She has been writing some articles, plus we received rebates on our heart worm preventive and then we received money from Amazon sales, so she had enough for a new bed.  We are a little nervous about it as we love our old bed.  It should be here next week.

BOL!!!  Mama just got drenched with water.  She is sitting on the couch with the window open and I guess the wind knocked water off the roof or something.  Water came in the window and got Mama and the couch.  BOL!

Mama ate dust while riding Buddy yesterday.  No, she didn't crash.  The roads here are gravel. A motor home was coming down the road and Mama decided to drive past them not thinking about the dust they were kicking up.  Yep, she ate dust.  BOL!

Almost Wordless Wednesday - September 4, 2013

"We want treats and we want them now."

Scout whines and I snap my teeth.  Oops, I accidentally snapped the computer.

"She's laughing!  That means we are getting treats! We won, we won!"

The Greyhound Who Loves Teaming Up With His Sister To Get Treats

P.S. Mama found something else on an Illinois website that clearly states that a moped has pedals (TX and IL have different definitions of mopeds) and mopeds still needs to be registered here.  That definitely answers her question about driving without plates here. It is a big No-No.  BOL!

Buddy Has Arrived

Who is Buddy?  Buddy is Mama's scooter.  He came with the name, so Mama is not going to change it.  BOL!

See, his name is on the scooter.
We thought Mama's scooter frustrations were over, but they are not.  They drove 80 miles to buy Buddy.  They didn't want to buy him from Pigman II, so they went to a different dealership.  Everything was going great with the sale and then Mama asked about the temporary plates.  This dealership doesn't do that and, in fact, they said that no dealership does.  That is not true.  All the other dealerships that the folks visited do it.  The folks almost walked out on the deal because without temporary plates, Mama can't drive it on the road.  The people at the dealership made all sorts of phone calls, but couldn't help.  Mama decided that she could either buy the scooter on Saturday and send off for her Texas plates and wait for them or wait another week and buy from Pigman II.  She decided to buy the scooter and wait for the plates.  She could get temporary plates, but that requires a trip to the DMV which requires a trip in a taxi.  The price of those temporary plates get expensive when you do that.  She will wait for her Texas license plates to arrive.  They may be here by the end of next week or the beginning of the next week.  She could try and get temporary plates on Saturday, but is it really worth it?  She doesn't know anymore.

Yesterday, Mama drove Buddy for the first time.  She is pretty nervous, so she is going to practice more.  She wouldn't be hitting the streets for a few days even if she had the plates now.   She doesn't like going around curves.  Dad says it is because she is going under 10 mph and it is harder to control at a slow speed.  The speed limit is only 10 mph in the park, so she can't go faster.  She still has trouble starting out, but she is getting better.  Last night, she watched training videos on You Tube and one instructor said to take your time and don't worry what people think about you practicing.  Mama liked him.  BOL!

I'm not so sure about Buddy.

Scout decided to do her own inspection of Buddy.

Scout does not approve.
Mama has already ordered a few items for Buddy.  I am not sure I like all the attention he is getting.
