I Went To The Beach!

Friday the folks took me to the beach!  It was my first time ever!  I have been to Indiana Dunes which has a beach, but it is not an ocean.  You can read about that adventure here.  We thought Scout would love Indiana Dunes because she loved sand and water but there were kites in the air and she got really scared.  Mom was wishing Scout could have visited the beach with us on Friday.  I think she would have liked it.

As soon as we started walking on the beach, this little dog came running at it.  Dogs are allowed if they are leashed.  The dog was leashed, but the owner wasn't holding the leash.  Dad caught the dog and it took a long time for the owner to slowly walk up to us. She said he broke free.  We have found that those little dogs are really strong and seem to be able to break free from their owners quite a bit.  She then asked if I was friendly.  Well, if I wasn't her little dog wouldn't still be walking around.  Duh!

Mom took over 200 photos on Friday. She has a continuous mode on her camera phone.  She said only a few turned out because I don't like looking at the camera.  I have more important things to do than look at the silly camera.  Okay, are you ready to see my day at the beach?

The beaches here have a lot of rocks.  I don't like rocks.

USS Midway, Kiss Statue and Bob Hope

The folks visited San Diego again on Saturday.  Dad wanted to tour the USS Midway.  Mom wasn't thrilled about it because they had just toured the USS Hornet near San Francisco.  However, Mom said this one was more fun and it was pretty crowded.  The USS Hornet had more employees than visitors which is sad.  The Midway gives visitors headphones so that they can take an audio tour. Mom always finds tours more interesting when there is an audio tour.

They started off their visit eating lunch on the deck.  Mom had a BLT and said it was really good.

The USS Midway was commission in 1945.  It was the largest ship at the time and was too large for the Panama Canal.  It had a crew of 4,500.  600 men in engineering, 225 cooks, 200 pilots, 40 corpsmen, 5 physicians, and 3 dentists.  They served 10 tons of food daily. 13,500 meals were served daily.  Each day they went through 3,000 potatoes, 1,000 loaves of bread, 4,500 pounds of beef and if pies were served, they would go through 500.

The USS Midway was decommissioned in 1992.  It opened in 2004 as a museum. 1 million people visit the museum each year.

There were several flight simulators on board. The folks didn't do that, but they along with many others laughed at a woman who screamed throughout her entire ride.  They thought she was an older woman, but turned out to be in her twenties. 

They toured the flight deck, the barracks and basically saw what life was like on board the ship.  They also watched a movie called the Battle of the Midway. The Midway was not involved in the battle, but the ship was named after it.  They said the movie was really good.

The weather was beautiful on Saturday and the folks had a good time learning about the USS Midway.

Seaport Village - 20 Years Later

The folks visited Seaport Village 20 years ago and Mom wanted to go back.  It was a place that she fell in love with back then. 

Seaport Village is in San Diego and is built on the water.  It consists of shops and restaurants. The shops all have a theme such as kites, wind chimes, candles, eye wear, shirts, etc.  The first time the folks visited, Mom had never seen anything like it and thought it was so much fun.

 Mom had fish and chips.  Dad had a seafood platter. They said it was good.  No leftovers for me.

This guy thought he might get some food, but there is glass between him and the folks. He was outside their window for most of their stay.

Mom enjoyed visiting Seaport Village again.  She said it didn't have the same magic as it did 20 years ago.  She didn't expect it would.  She still enjoyed it though.
