We've Been On Vacation!

Jack and Scout here sharing the keyboard this morning.

Scout: Did you miss us? We've been on vacation with Mama and Daddy.

Jack: Did we go to a greyhound event like Dewey? Did we go to Disney World?

Scout: Nope! We went TROUT FISHING! That's right, trout fishing.

Jack: We were supposed to only be gone five nights, but we were having so much fun that we stayed seven nights. The weather was perfect. Mama and Daddy pretended that they were retired like us.

Scout: We took lots of walks and ate lots of good food.

Jack: Scout got tired on Day 5 and turned into a mule on the walks though.

Scout: When I get tired, I get tired and that's that. Is anyone going to carrying me back? I don't think so! So, when I get tired, I just stop until we turn around.

Jack: The place was booked up, so on the morning of Day 6 we had to try and get a non-reservable site. We searched for a site but nothing was available. We were just getting ready to leave to come home when we saw a camper leave and Mama told Daddy "Go get that site!" Daddy did and we moved the RV up this huge hill and we camped at that site for two nights. We didn't like that campsite as well because the walking paths were not as good, but at least we were still camping.

Scout: Grandma and Grandpa came to visit us at the campground. They stayed at a cabin. We looked inside their cabin but couldn't go in because it said "NO PETS ALLOWED!" How rude is that?

Jack: Mama and Daddy ate out quite a bit, but Mama always brought us back something. Grandma bought us KFC one night. We definitely are big poultry lovers.

Jack: Here we are watching Daddy loading up the RV on the day that we thought we were headed home, but we ended up staying.

Scout: We were upset when we thought we were going home, so we both refused to look at the camera.

Jack: This picture is not very good because it was taken from the Jeep, but here are some people fishing. It's really pretty in person.

Scout: I wanted to get in the water, but Mama said no. She wouldn't even let us get near the water because she said we might get fish hooks in our feet. Daddy said that would really, really hurt.

Jack: Yeah, we were really careful not getting near the water and then Grandma found a fish hook on our patio at the campsite. :-O Luckily, no one had stepped on it.

Scout: We are back home now and getting back to our normal routine. We are a little sad because we had such a great time on vacation. Mama said she doesn't think she has ever seen me so happy. I just loved walking since the weather was nice and there weren't any bugs. I did get tired at the end though.

Jack: The best part of being home is being able to run in our yard.

Scout: Yeah, running in the yard is the best!

Scout's Gotcha Day

Scout here reporting on a very important day. It's my 3rd Gotcha Day! Three years ago today, I packed my bags in Tulsa, OK and headed to St. Louis to meet my forever family. My foster Mama, Debbie, told me that my new family saw my picture on the Internet and decided they wanted me. I never knew I was being "advertised" on the Internet. It made me feel a little cheap, but foster Mama told me that my new family had been carefully screened and I would be very happy.

Here I am after I first got out of the car. I'm wearing the blue muzzle. Jack is behind me.

Here I am meeting Daddy for the first time. I'm nervous, so I'm not looking at him.

Okay, the Daddy man might be okay. I'm the one in the front. I know, Jack and I looked alike back then. Jack is more grey now.

Here I am ready to start my new life. I don't know why I was scared, but I was.

Jack wasn't happy that I was coming home with him. He was told he was getting a sister, but he thought a sister was a new toy, not another hound.

So, after three years of living here, I have to say it's working out quite well. Mama and I had a few bumps in the beginning. She wanted to call me Katie. Do I look like a Katie? I'm a huge girl, I'm not petite. I don't like pink. I'm a tomboy. Katie doesn't work for me. My name is Scout and that's just the why it is. Scout in To Kill A Mockingbird was a tomboy, so maybe that's why I was given the name. I don't know, but it's my name and it suits me. Mama does call me Scoutie from time to time and that's okay, but Katie is a big no for me.

I don't think we are doing anything big today. Daddy is coming home tonight and that is exciting! He's been away on a business trip and we've been missing him a lot. He's not getting home until bedtime though, but we will still treat him like a rock star when he opens the door tonight.

Fall

Fall is here! Fall is our favorite season because it's cool outside. We can walk without bugs getting us. Scout doesn't like bugs at all. She doesn't even like hummingbirds because they buzz. Buzz, buzz, buzz. It really freaks her out. Neither of us like horseflies. You should see me, Scout and Mama run when they buzz us.

It's pretty around our house right now. See what nature planted for us. Mama says she will miss the wildflowers when we move.

As you may remember, I love laying out in the sun. Fall is nice because I don't get so hot, but it's hard finding the sun on our deck. This is me three weeks ago. I had a small strip of sun.

Last week, I didn't have any sun on the deck at all. Mama has been moving my bed around inside the house so that I can get my sun beams, but it's not the same.

Saturday night, Mama, Daddy, Scout and I walked through the woods to the lake. Scout had never been there and she was very impressed. It was fun just walking through the woods.

Yesterday, it was only 59 degrees here and it rained off and on. We went to the state park that is only a few miles from our house. We walked through the campground and then walked along a trail. We had a nice time. We came home and Mama made chili, corn bread and peanut butter bread. Yes, fall is in the air here! We napped, watched the Rams and had a nice family day. Oh, the Rams won! It's the first time in two years that they have won at home and the first time in four years that they have won in September. Yes, they have not been playing well, for quite a while, but yesterday was great!!! Mama screamed which scared me a little, but then I realized it was okay.

It was only 45 degrees this morning. I thought it was cold, but Scout thought it was perfect. Mama says that I'm a summer boy and Scout is a winter girl. Scout doesn't want to do anything in the summer, but give her some cool air and she's a wild thing.

Sunday's Open House

I'm sure you are all anxious to hear the results of the second day of our open house. It went just like day one. No one came! Mama allowed us to stay in the house instead of going to the RV. Her plan was to rush us through the back door and into the RV if anyone pulled in the driveway. We just laid in the living room and listened to the real estate man. He said we were very well behaved and that he wouldn't even know dogs lived in our house if he didn't see us. That mean's we don't smell. LOL

The open houses show that there is no one is interested in our house at all. Wow, that's really sad. We know it is all due to the economy, so we are not taking it personally.

So, our weekend just flew by and while it was disappointing, we are not as sad as we could be. Mama and Daddy are making a change to the listing. They are lowering the price, but they are also removing five acres from the listing, so it's not a true price reduction but it might be enough to bring someone in. If the buyer wants to buy the additional land, then they will have that option. Our house comes off the market around November 1st and we will take a break until the first of January. Daddy says we can't live in the RV during the coldest part of the winter, so that's why we need to take a break just in case someone would buy our house during December.
Mama says the break will be nice and we can all relax for a few months.
