A Post About This And That

There is not a whole lot going on here.  It is still raining.  We had two days in May that it did not rain.  So far in June, it has not rained just one day.  It has been raining pretty heavy since last night.  Mom says we have walked five times since last night in the rain, but I don't pay much attention to those things. Scout and I don't mind the rain.

Yesterday, Mom says that Jack sent us a rainbow.  Now, it is not unusual for us to see 2-3 rainbows a day, but for some reason she thinks Jack sent this one.  Wacko!  She said it is because it was the 4th anniversary of his death and the first thing we saw when we walked out the door was a full rainbow.  Unfortunately, we couldn't get the entire rainbow in one photo.

We tried to put them together here, but couldn't.  ::shrugs shoulders:::

Last weekend, we were supposed to move sites.  We had extended another three weeks here and they said someone else had reserved our site.  We tried to get them to move those people since we have been here since the beginning of April, but they wouldn't budge.  We got all ready to move and Scout and I were quite excited even though we were just moving over one street and down two sites.  Dad went to the office to pay and the manager happened to be there.  He thought it was silly that we were moving, so he moved the other people.  Scout and I were disappointed.

Mom has been wanting to replace our old ottoman. It was really cheap and the topper was made out of canvas. Dad wanted it to be taller so he added a pillow to it.  Mom hated it.  She decided Saturday was the day to replace it.

TADA!

It also serves as a toy box.  I am not thrilled with that.  Dad thinks it is a GREAT idea.

The top also serves as a tray.  I doubt we will ever use that function.
Mom loves the new ottoman even though she has cracked her toe on it twice.  It has wooden feet.  The first time she thought she broke her toe.  The second time, she just said a bunch of things that I can't repeat.

Back in January, Mom bought some measuring cups that she loved.
Unfortunately, the numbers rubbed off.  We don't have a dishwasher, so they were washed by hand.  She emailed the company, Progressive, and told them she was very disappointed in their product.  They told her they were aware of the problem and a solution has not been found yet.   They offered Mom another product from their line.   Mom was excited because she saw some other measuring cups that they have that have the size embossed on the bottom so it will not wear off.  She ordered the cups and the lady said she was including the spoons too.  Mom really likes her new cups, but thinks they should take the "defective ones" off the market since they know there is a problem.

The cups collapse for easy storage.

Scout and I have been relaxing outside as much as possible.  We have to do it in between the rain drops.  Last Sunday, Dad spent some time organizing our basement, so we supervised.

A Visit To The Columbine Memorial

Yesterday, the folks visited the Columbine Memorial.  On April 20, 1999, two students opened fire in their high school.  They killed 12 students and one teacher.  24 were injured.  The gunmen killed themselves.  Mom said she remembers that sad day very well.  If you would like to read more about the shootings, here is a link that gives you a detailed description of what happened.  Columbine High School Massacre

The memorial is in a park that is very close to where the shootings occurred.

"Never Forgotten"

Each person that was killed has a section that is dedicated to them.  It tells what they were like and their hopes and dreams.

This section on the wall has quotes from people who were at the shootings or knew the victims.

Even after all these years, there was a nice crowd of people at the memorial.

Looking down on the memorial.

Saturday, the folks drove back to Celestial Seasonings so that Mom could stock up on tea.  She says it is cheaper to buy it there than in the store or online. Also, there are some flavors that Mom has not seen in stores.  They did some other sightseeing in the area, so the trip was not just for tea.  They stopped at the Rib House for dinner.  It is a BBQ place that is located in a residential area. They ate their dinner outside since the weather was so nice.  Mom said the ribs and the chipotle corn bake were great. The coleslaw was not very good.  Dad brought us home some beef ribs.  We didn't get very much because Mom said it would make us sick.  It was so good. Yum!

On their way to the Columbine memorial, they stopped at Biker Jim's for lunch.  Biker Jim's Their food truck had come to Dad's work and he wanted Mom to try it.  They serve brats made from reindeer, rattlesnakes, elk, etc.  What did Mom choose?  She chose a beef frank wrapped in bacon.  Dad at the rattlesnake/pheasant and said it was good.  Mom said her frank was good.

Frank wrapped in bacon.  The side item is fried mac and cheese. Dad said it was the best he has ever had.
Scout and I have been enjoying our yard when the weather cooperates.  It is going to be too hot this week to sit out much.

Here we are eating frosty treats.
We have met some really nice people this week.  There was a couple here who are just starting out being full-timers.  It sounds like this was their first time camping.  They had a lot of questions to ask us and we were more than happy to answer them.  There is also a nice couple next to us who have been full-timing a year longer than us. They are from here and are here visiting family.  They have talked to us quite a bit.

There are two people leaving today that we are happy to see leave.  One guy doesn't like dogs.  We were warned about him from another person.  He told us the guy threatened to shoot his dogs if they stepped foot on his site.  The folks said "hi" to the dog hater and he just turns his back.  His wife said "hi" though.  Mom said she should have put some fake poop in his yard.  BOL!  Another guy has three little dogs on flexi-leashes and he lets them pee everywhere.  Mom couldn't believe when she saw him let his dogs mark another guy's RV. That is rude!  Unfortunately, he does it all the time.  Most people are nice, but there are always a few "jerks" around.

Anniversary Weekend

Our folks were married on Memorial weekend, 29 years ago.  Wow!  They sure are old!  Today is their actual anniversary.

Yesterday, they went to the Golden History Museum.  They said it was interesting.   Did you know that Jolly Ranchers candy or the Kong dog toys started in Golden, CO?

The museum also has a very rare piano.  It is covered in velvet.

They learned about the "M" that is made of rocks on Lookout Mountain.  On the first Monday of school, the freshmen band members of the School of Mining carry a ten pound rock that they have brought from home up to Lookout Mountain. They then paint their rock white and a new M is formed.  The M is easily be seen from city of Golden.  The students sing when they complete their mission and it is said they can be heard in Golden.

There was also a section dedicated to Coors beer.

Today, the folks decided to drive up to Lookout Mountain.  They did that back in 2013, but decided to do it again.  Here is the link from 2013.
Bikers were everywhere going up the mountain.

Lots of people in the air.

See the white?  That is the M that we told you about.  It is not a good photo, but Mom couldn't get a front view of it.
Inside the nature center.  The displays were very nice.

Outside the nature center.

Lookout Mountain as seen from the ground.  It is the mountain in the middle.
The folks then drove to Red Lobster for their anniversary lunch.  They said it was good.  Mom brought home leftovers but all we got were some mozzarella sticks.  Scout said they were delicious.  I thought they were okay.

The folks bought a DVR for their anniversary.  Since we have a pay as you go satellite system, we do not have a receiver with a DVR built into it.  Mom said that now when we interrupt her TV programs with wanting to go for a walk, she will just hit record and off we will go.  It sounds great to us.

Tomorrow is Memorial Day.  I am not sure what our plans are, but here is a photo of us from Memorial Day 2013.  We were in Arlington, TX.
