Prairie Dogs!

Yesterday, we took a very long walk so that we could see the prairie dogs.  Dad was right, prairie dogs are more interesting than bunnies.  We were amazed by the noises they made.  We also loved sniffing around their homes.  We didn't get any actual pictures of them since they were pretty far away and our camera is not that good.  We did take a video and you can hear them.

On our way home, we passed some geese.  We have been careful to stay clear of them.

The snow is gone today.  It took it longer to disappear than expected since it was still snowing until about 11 a.m. on Tuesday.  We were able to hook up to water for the day yesterday, but we disconnected last night.  Today, we are hooked up again and it looks like we can stay that way for the remainder of our stay here.  Life has returned to normal for us.

 Now that the weather is nice again, we are taking long walks.  We usually take two one hour walks each day.  I think we could go longer, but Scout just isn't up for it.  Mama was a little nervous that we went too far today, but we made it back okay. We met some people on the trail and Scout was able to rest up before we continued on. Scout has always been one that wears out fast, but since she is almost a senior, Mama doesn't want to push her too far.

The campground is sold out again for this weekend.  People will probably start arriving today.  We kind of like the excitement of having other people around, but it is also nice to have the place to ourselves.

Waiting For The Snow

It is a beautiful day so far, but it is supposed to change by afternoon.  We are getting more snow later today.  Dad says we will have to bring the slides in.  We are not happy about that.  The snow will probably be gone by tomorrow afternoon though and we hope that is the last of the snow for us. 

How can it snow when it looks this nice?

We took an hour long walk this morning.  We walked over 6,000 steps according to Mama's pedometer. We have four legs though, so doesn't that mean we walked 12,000 steps?

The folks planned on visiting Unsinkable Molly Brown's House on Saturday.  They couldn't find a parking spot though.  They didn't realize that the 420 Rally was being held nearby, but they soon figured it out.  The 420 Rally is a marijuana celebration, or something like that.  There ended up being shootings there late in the day.

Yesterday, the folks went grocery shopping. They normally go on Friday nights, but Dad didn't get home until late.  Dad said they will never again go on a Sunday because the store was crowded  They also went to Camping World for the fourth time since we have been here.  They returned that $140 hose that they can't use here since we can't hook up to water if it below freezing even with a heated hose.  We will be out of cold weather soon and if we need one next year, we will buy one then. 

After all the shopping was done, we got to go for a ride.  We wanted to visit another state park that is nearby, but they said NO DOGS ALLOWED.  There is wildlife in the park, so we can't go in.  The folk took us back to this park and we took a walk along the river.  It was nice to ride in the Jeep and to see another area of this park. 

Mama is going to take us to see the prairie dogs later this week. They have a "town" just down the street from us.  Dad thinks we will like them better than the bunnies.  Scout and I don't try to get at the bunnies.  We just stare at them.  I think we will just stare at the prairie dogs, too.

Radio Controlled Airplanes

The weekend is finally here and we are happy.  It has been a long week with bad weather.   The park was all but empty until yesterday.  It is full this morning.  We watched many people leave disappointed yesterday when they found all the sites were reserved.  The park comes to life with all the other campers.  We were invited to a "party" last night, but it was past our bedtime so we declined.

There is a field across from us where people fly radio controlled airplanes.  They are pretty loud.  Luckily, we are not late sleepers because they were buzzing by at 7 a.m.   It makes us wonder why they decided that the field right next to the campground was a good idea. 

You know what I discovered?  I can watch bunnies from my bed!

Almost Back To Normal

We had a few inches of snow last night.  We took this photo on our walk today at around 11 a.m.  It is now after 2 p.m. and the snow is basically gone.

The maintenance guy came by and noticed that our water handle was broke.  Mama had to listen to his lecture about it.  Dad broke it the first day and she broke it yesterday.  If you turn the water on below 32 degrees, it breaks. Mama thought it was okay to turn on, but not to leave hooked up.  Mama broke it getting water for us.  The guy fixed it and told Mama it was safe to fill up the tank. She said "Nope, I am not touching it."  He hooked it up for her and told her it was fine to use, but to unhook it when the tank was full because it will be freezing again tonight.  It looks like we will have to do that every day since our night temperatures are below freezing. Tomorrow, it will be in the 50's, so it should be safe to use, but Mama will probably leave it unhooked.  BOL!

Our slides are back out!  We are happy campers.  We may get snow on Monday, but that is a long way off, so we will live in the moment and enjoy having more space.

We took a long walk at lunch time.  The path didn't go anywhere exciting, but it had some pretty views.

We met a lady who is trying to make her way home to Montana.  She has been stuck here.  She and her husband are in a little camper.  She said they are tired of looking at each other.  She agreed with Mama that winter camping is not fun unless you are in a warm place.  She said they are leaving tomorrow no matter what.  She said the highways have been closed on their route and that is why they are still here.

The folks ate at a restaurant that they really liked on Sunday.  Here is Mama's review: TOCABE: An American Indian Eatery   We didn't get to try anything.

Almost Wordless Wednesday - Snow!

At least the snow melts fast here.  We are snuggled in our motor home with the slides in (sardine can) bracing for for more snow today. Some say we may get a few inches to 8".   It really depends on where you are located. This should be it until next week.

A Meltdown and Dinosaur Ridge

There was a meltdown here yesterday and we are not talking about snow.  It was Mama!   Mama brought the slides in yesterday because it was snowing hard and we didn't want the weight of the snow to hurt our awnings.  We then put on our collars and leashes to go outside.  The door wouldn't open.  Mama worked with the locks and nothing.  She banged and banged on the door and it wouldn't budge.  We called Dad, but he didn't answer.  She texted him, but no response.  This was at 3 p.m. and it was possible that he wouldn't get home until after 7 p.m.  We had business to do outside, so we were crying.  Mama started crying.  She melted down.  She opened the window and yelled for help, but no one heard her.  There is an emergency exit through a window.  We looked at it and decided it wasn't a true emergency.  Mama didn't want to jump from the window.  Dad finally called back and she told him that she thought the door was jammed because the motor home didn't feel level since she brought the slides in.  She couldn't figure out how to level it because the buttons were not working.  He told her to turn the key to the left and the buttons lit up.  He told her what button to push and then the door flew open.  Crisis over!   Dad didn't understand why Mama was so freaked out, but we understood.  It is not fun being locked in a place and not being able to get out.  Mama's arm and leg are bruised from hitting the door.

Saturday the folks visited Dinosaur Ridge.  This is a place where you can see actual dinosaur tracks and bones.  Mama is really not into dinosaurs because it is hard for her to imagine that they once roamed earth.  However, this place makes it easier to imagine.  Guests and either walk the 1.5 mile trail or take a guided tour for $5.  The folks chose to take the guided tour.  Mama said she learned much more by having a tour guide than walking it on her own. The tour guide was very good at involving the children on the tour, but the tour talk was really geared towards adults.  The kids knew a lot more about dinosaur than Mama.

This is wear the dinosaur tracks are.

 This area was once flat, but due to changes in the earth, it is now a hillside.  There are tracks all over this hill.  The hill is falling apart and they are trying to save it.  They want to put a roof over it to preserve it, but the state is unable to agree on a design and they need $3 million to build it.

There is  now a gate that closes the road at night because there was a theft of some of the tracks.  People would come and chisel them out at night.  Very sad that people have to destroy things.

It is really hard to get decent photos of the tracks, but in person, you can really see them.  It is pretty amazing.  Mama didn't take any photos of the bones because even in person she had trouble seeing them.  LOL  

Dinosaur Ridge is a great place to take kids that are interested in dinosaurs.  There is a lot for them to do.  The gift shop had some tennis shoes that the folks thought were really neat.  The soles of the shoes have a big dinosaur footprint on it so when kids walk, they leave a dinosaur footprint.  Cute!

Mama has updated her restaurant blog.  Table Mountain Inn has some interesting photos - fire at the table side.  BOL!
