Our Year In Review - Part 1

We were listening to Christmas music the other day and Mama started talking about the places we have visited this year.  It seems like each place has touched us in some way either with the people we have met or just the places we have visited. We decided to do a brief year in review.

We ended 2012 and started 2013 right here in Houston in this same campground.  While we were here, we sold our house and purchased our motor home.  We officially became full-timers and, yes, Texans!  When we arrived back here this month, we walked the campground to see who was still here that we knew from our previous visit.  We were really hoping to find the nice couple who brought Mama a Subway sandwich for lunch one day.  They noticed that she was alone during the day and thought she might like a sandwich.  Mama asked if they would be back this year and the lady said she didn't know.  She said they were getting older and she was not sure if they would make the trip again. They had been doing it for a few years.  Unfortunately, they are not here and we hope they are okay.   There was also a couple with a German Shepherd that we hoped to see again.  He was working really hard to train his dog and we would see him running with the German Shepherd a lot.  He is from Canada and we were told they went back home, but they will be returning.  They are not here yet.  Sadly, we have learned of a few people who have died.  We are located near the medical center and there are many patients that stay here while receiving treatment.  Do you remember the Weimaraner who used to use the dash of his motor home as a bed?  Well, his Dad got sick and died.  :-(  The Weimaraner is now living with his family in Florida.  We hope he has a nice yard there.

Our old place.
We left Houston and arrived in Denver on April 1st.  Denver is where the nice lady gave us bags of groceries as she was leaving the campground.  She said they stay in Vail, CO each year during the winter, so they are probably there now.  Denver is also where I made my "great escape" during blizzard conditions.  Yeah, we probably shouldn't talk about that too much.  Denver was not Mama's favorite place. We received 22" of snow in three weeks.  We had to keep the slides in quite a bit and it was cold.  It was there that Mama decided she was not good at winter camping.

Scout enjoyed laying on the beach at the lake in Denver.

Lookout Mountain

The log cabin which we walked to almost every day.

May found us heading to Dallas which was our next destination, but we stopped in Amarillo for a few days first.  We had a lot of fun there even though it was really windy.  We had a site where we had our own dog run.  We also went to Cadillac Ranch and did some painting.

The folks visited the RV museum.  This bus was in the movie RV.

They ate at the Big Texan Restaurant and really enjoyed it.

Out next stop was Arlington which is near Dallas.  We met Miss Woe there.  Miss Woe is a greyhound that lives in the RV park with her folks.  We were really thinking of her when they had that ice storm recently. The campground posted photos of the ice storm and we were very thankful that we were not there.
Our site in Arlington.
I really liked this campground because of all the squirrels.  We sat outside a lot there.  We had a pretty good size yard.

Memorial Day 2013

The folks visited the Sixth Floor Museum which is also known as the Book Depository.  That is where Lee Harvey Oswald fired the shoots that killed President Kennedy.  Mama said she learned a lot.

Since we are only to the end of May, we will continue this on another day so that no one falls asleep on us.  BOL!

Houston....It Feels Like We Have Returned Home

Mama was almost giddy as we passed by our old stomping grounds here in Houston.  She pointed out her favorite restaurants, of course.  We zoomed past the exit to our old campground.  We are on the other side of the city this time.

We left Sherman, TX about 7 a.m. this morning.  We drove through Dallas.
Dallas, TX

A greyhound bus passed us.  We really need to clean the windshield.
Even horses need potty breaks at rest areas.

Yep, this is Houston traffic on a Sunday afternoon. We expected it.

We were surprised how heavy the traffic was an hour outside of Houston when we were in the middle on nowhere.

We arrived at our new campground around 1:30 p.m.   It is a nice place. It is what Mama expected which is concrete pad after concrete pad.  There is not a lot of area for us to walk except in the street. Dogs are not allowed on the path around the lake.  We think that is rude. They have three dog runs and the one closest to us is like a box. However, there is a pretty large one just down the street from us and we could even run a little in that one if we get the urge.  Mama is very happy that they have the large dog run.

The folks drove to Dad's workplace tonight and it is about nine miles away.  They then went out to eat at Mama's favorite steak place, Saltgrass Steak House.  She will write a review later on it.

Tomorrow, we will help Mama organize things in Goldie.  The folks will go grocery shopping after Dad gets home from work.  They decided to wait because the stores were really crowded and they were tired tonight.

We are happy and content to be living our dream once again.

Oh, Boy!

We found out some very exciting news tonight!

It appears that our HUGE adventure is going to start up again!

 Are you listening to me?

Yep, we just got word that after Thanksgiving, we will be headed out again!

He is being sent to Houston for three months!  The folks talked about it and decided that even though they wanted to save money by us staying here through the winter months, that it was more important that we were all together.
I guess things could still change, but for now, we are preparing for Houston. We will be in a different part of town this time, so we will be at a different RV park. There is a lot to do to get ready such as doctor visits, vet visits, home repairs and other things that we will tell you about later. Mama had two days to rest and now she has to get back to work!  She is already drooling thinking about her favorite restaurants in Houston.  BOL!

Pizza Man Is Coming Tonight!

Today is our last full day in Houston.  Mama woke up this morning thinking we were leaving today. She is all confused because she moved everything she planned to do this week up by a day. It's a good thing she did because she planned on grocery shopping tonight, but decided to change it in case Dad worked late tonight. Well, he is going to be late. They are having a good bye party for a guy and they are including Dad.  Since Dad is not going to be home and he didn't tell Mama until after she got home from grocery shopping, she decided she will order pizza tonight.

We actually had Pizza Hut on Sunday night.  Mama was disappointed in it.  She ordered that new pizza that is made with their garlic bread. She didn't like it.  She couldn't taste the garlic on the bread and it had too much sauce.

She also ordered a Cheese Lovers with pepperoni and mushrooms.  It tasted like it had cinnamon on it.

Mama hadn't planned to order from them again, but they deliver and we need dinner tonight. Hopefully, the pizza will be better tonight.  She has always loved Pizza Hut.

A couple that has been here since February left today.  It was a little sad to seem them go.  Mama told her that I blogged and she thought it was funny. Funny?  Yes, she asked what I could possibly write about. Mama told her I write about all the happenings in the campground. Her eyes got really big.  I think that made her nervous. LOL

Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows

Mama just returned from the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows.  She said it was a lot of fun.  She met a lot of dogs, including greyhounds!   It was a huge show.  There was a lot of shopping.  She didn't buy anything though.  Can you believe that?   She planned on buying some things from the GPA of  Houston.  That is the rescue group that we bought my Thera Paw boot from. They were there, but they were not selling anything.  Dad didn't see any of the rescue groups selling things.  They gave away some things.  Mama talked to a lady from GPA about my corn and she recommended a few more things to try.  Yep, it is still there.  It is really not coming to the surface.  I guess that should be discussed in another post sometime.

There were a lot of people that brought their dogs, but Mama said we wouldn't have liked it.  I would have been whining at every dog and trying to mark things.  Scout would have gotten tired and probably just laid in the aisle.  They said a lot of dogs that had accidents.  Some of the show dogs even had accidents in the rings.

Mama said they went through rows and rows of vendors.  There was a lot of  neat things, but nothing that she wanted.
Granite dog food dishes. Nope, she didn't buy us one.

Exercise equipment - so glad she didn't this for us.

More greyhounds!
A Great Dane hoping for a bite of food.

This Cocker Spaniel has cancer.  She has a bucket list.  She has appeared on the news and threw out the first pitch had a baseball game.  She has done a lot of things, but Mama can't remember them all.
The show also had a dancing dog competition.

There was agility.
Mama said she could have watched the agility all day long.

There was flyball and also a pulling competition.

They walked around and saw the dogs getting ready for the dog show.  Mama said it definitely takes a lot of work.  She didn't take photos because she didn't know if the owners wanted that to happen. If the dogs were not getting their hair fixed, they were kind of hidden.  They probably just wanted to be left alone so that they could rest.

There were only two greyhounds that competed today in the dog show.  The dog show was a lot different than on TV. There were not any announcements.  In fact, Mama couldn't hear a thing.  It is like it was done in silence.  She is not even sure who won between the greyhounds.

The folks thought the brindle was very handsome.

They watched some of the other dogs being shown. They noticed that one judge seemed pretty bored and didn't even watch the dogs walk around. It is definitely different than the shows on TV.

This is where the dog show was held.
Astrodome is across from the dog show. There is talk that it will face the wrecking ball.

We got treats from the show!

Lots of free samples of dog food.  Dad said we can eat them as treats.

Open them!
After the show, the folks drove to a restaurant that they wanted to try from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network.  There was a line to get in and they couldn't find a parking spot, so they gave up. The place closes at 3 p.m. and is not open on Sundays. They will not be eating there on this trip.  Mama was disappointed.

The buffet where they ate.
They ended up eating at China Stat.  Mama said it was good.  The food was not labeled very well, so she didn't know what had seafood in it for sure.  She ate a lot of chicken.  The place was packed at 1.30 p.m.  It was $9.95 a person.

There is still one more restaurant that the folks plan on trying this weekend.  Our time in Houston is almost over.
