My Great Escape

We published this earlier today, but then took it down and wrote another post about the weather. We are ready for the world to hear about "My Great Escape" now.

It sure is cold here.  Last night, we decided to bring the slides in for a number of reasons.  The wind was very high and it was making us rock and with the slides in, we don't move as much.  We were concerned that the slide awnings might rip or be damaged by the heavy snow that was predicted.  We also felt having the slides in would make it easier to keep the motor home warm.   The heavy snow really didn't come.  We have a few inches and they are saying we may get 4.5" when it is all over with tonight.  However, it is very cold with the wind. It will not get above 20 today and that is without the windchill.  It is -8 with the wind. Brrrr!

This is how crowded it is with the slides in.  It is messy, but no cleaning today because there is no room to clean.

This morning, Mama dressed in her boots, hat, winter coat and gloves.  I was surprised when she put me in a coat.  She said I needed to wear it because it was so cold.  It sure was cold.  I refused to do all my business which Mama wasn't happy about because I didn't do it last night either.  She thought for sure I would get her up in the middle of the night, but I didn't.  We came back to the motor home and then Scout had to get dressed for her walk.  Yes, even Scout wore a coat. You know it is cold when Scout puts a coat on.

Okay, so now we come to my great escape. Mama said I shouldn't tell everyone because it makes her look like a bad Mama. Anyone who owns a greyhound knows that we have to be watched because we can bolt. Yes, we like to run and we can reach 45 mph in just four strides or at least that is what we have been told.  Mama is always very careful because she knows if we bolt, we may not come back.  She is especially careful with me because I am a wild child.   Okay, so while she was slowly taking Scout down the steps because they were slick, I ran down the steps and I was FREE. Mama had the car keys in her hands because she was going to start the car for Dad.  She tossed them while she was trying to catch me.  Dad later found them ten feet away.  Great toss, Mama.  BOL!   I ran and ran.  I heard Mama screaming for me.  I bet she woke everyone up.  Dad has just gotten out of the shower so even though Mama was screaming, he couldn't help.  Scout refused to go back inside the motor home because she was watching my great escape.  Mama said she lost track of me.  She thought I was gone for good.  I then zoomed back around and played a game of tag with Mama. Mama did everything wrong when it comes to an escaped greyhound.  She yelled and chased.  I finally ran to her and she put me back in the motor home. She said she is shocked that I came back.  Heck, it was cold out there.  I just wanted to have a good run.  Mama took Scout for her walk and then came back to find blood every where.  I cut myself on brush.  I have cuts on my feet and leg.  She cleaned me up and put medicine on me that is supposed to prevent an infection.  I didn't get yelled out because she was so happy I was okay.   It was fun, but I wish I wouldn't have gotten cut up.  I plan on spending most of the day inside where it is warm.  I have a feeling that Mama is not going to let me get near a door unless she has me leashed and the leash wrapped around her hand.

See, I am fine.  I am resting after my big run.

The West Has Made Me Wild

Yes, it is true, I have been wild here in Denver and that is why you haven't heard from me for a few days.  I have been grounded from the computer.  What did I do?  It wasn't one thing, but a series of things.
  1. I have been so excited about being here that I want to be outside all the time, even at 2 a.m.  Mama does not like when I wake her up in the middle of the night.  She usually gives in to me because she never knows if it is an emergency or me just being a pain.
  2. On walks, I want to go the way I want to go and if I don't get to go that way, I throw a tantrum.  My tantrum  is always done in front of onlookers.  I jump and then go into a complete turn- twice.  This doesn't sound like much, but according to Mama it is since she has Scout on a leash too.
  3. I am really getting into this throwing dirt with my back legs after I pee.  The problem occurred when I did this at 5 a.m. on a Saturday morning and I kicked Scout and she screamed. We were walking in front of campers that Mama said were probably trying to sleep.  We had to get out of the area fast before they looked out the windows and identified us.
  4. We were walking and we saw Dad come home from work.  We raced to catch up with him.  I was so excited when he got out of the car that I did my tantrum move and that hurt Mama's back.
  5. Mama walked over to the office and when we saw her coming back, we both started barking.  We both got in big trouble for that.  Barking is a big no-no, but it is so much fun!
See, it wasn't really all that bad.

Saturday morning, we took Dad on a walk to show him what he has been missing by working.  Dad showed us some prairie dogs, but we didn't get pictures.  They went underground too fast for photos.

What kind of bird do you think lives here?  We don't know.

Mountains in the background.

Me and Dad on the beach.
Scout loves the water and is getting her tummy wet.

A magpie.  Mama thinks they are cute.

We are supposed to have some bad weather moving in tonight.  They say it may be a blizzard!  We have heard anything from 2" to a foot.  Mama is not happy about walking us in the snow.  She said she will not walk us together because we will be too excited with the snow.  The worse part of the storm will be the temperature.  We have heard that it may get down to 5 degrees tonight, but with the wind, it could be well below zero.  The last update was much better with a low of about 20.  That is not so bad. The concern for us is that our pipes could freeze.  We are taking precautions.  The folks bought a heated hose yesterday, but it is not going to work for us.  The sensor that turns it on goes inside our "basement" and that compartment is heated which means the heater on the hose will not turn on and our hose will freeze.  We have to return it to the store.  Dad is not too upset because he was not happy spending $140 on it.  The plan now is to disconnect our water hose and we will just fill up our tank with water.  Showers will have to be short and no laundry can be done.  It will just be for two days though.  The temperatures tomorrow will be below freezing all day.  We also have some lights near the pipes to keep them warm.  We will keep the motor home warm with space heaters and our furnace.  We have plenty of propane.  It will be a real test though to see how warm we can keep it in here because while it is well insulated, it still is not as good as a house.  The forecast keeps changing and it actually seems to be improving, so hopefully it is not as bad as we once thought.   I guess it is part of the adventure to be in Denver for a blizzard.  BOL!

The folks did a lot of sightseeing on Saturday.  We will talk about that tomorrow.

New Discoveries

It is a beautiful day here in Denver.  It is a clear and sunny day.  We are able to see the mountains from our campsite today.  We didn't even know they were there until now.

Yesterday, we were walking along and Mama yelled "STOP!".   We thought maybe she saw a bear, so we looked around. She said, " Watch your step."   I thought maybe it was a snake or goose poo.  There is goose poo everywhere. No, it wasn't that.  It was a cactus.  Yep, a cactus.  We didn't know they were in the field next to our site.

Yep, this would hurt if we stepped on it.
Yesterday afternoon, we took a nice walk near the lake.  We met a lady who has a whippet. The whippet is in California.  The lady is wanting to adopt a greyhound, so she was happy to meet us.  She had a lot of questions.  Mama is always happy to talk to people about greyhounds.

This morning, we took off for a walk around the lake again, but this time we went a different way.  Mama laughed when she saw a lady who had a big winter coat and gloves on and Mama was not even wearing a coat.  It was funny in Texas because there was a Florida couple there who looked like they were dressed for skiing when they walked around.  The funny thing was there was a man from Canada there and he would go shirtless while the Florida couple were all bundled up.  Okay, so back to our walk today. It was quite pretty.  We had a view of the mountains while walking on the beach.  You don't believe us?  Well, take a look.

Beach and mountains in one photo.  Cool!

Scout loves it here. She is loving the weather.  I like it too.  However, the first day here I had problems with my ears popping.  I am doing fine now.

We are going to take a different route after lunch today.  There are so many places to walk here.  We love it!

Denver Is So Cool!

We left Goodland, KS around 7:30 a.m. yesterday.  Those darn stabilizer jacks caused us problems again. We think we irritated our only neighbor because we had our rig running for a while before we were able to take off.  It was a cold morning.  The windchill was 19.  Brrrr!

Oh, I did a funny Sunday night.  We were walking in this large field and Mama kept telling us to go poop.  She harps on it sometimes and it is so annoying! I got tired of hearing it.  I went and then I did this new thing where I wipe my feet.  I know, other dogs do that, but it is new for me.  I started wiping my feet and my boot went flying off.  It looked like I had kicked a football it went so far.  It went way over Mama's head.  Mama and Dad started laughing and Dad told Mama to keep her eye on it because it was getting dark and he didn't want us to loose it in the dark.  It was funny!

The campground in Goodland.

Our rig parked next to the only other guest.

Scout loves the cool weather.

I had to bundle up.  Mama and I don't think the heater on the rig works very well.
Cows and a little snow in Colorado.

Oh my gosh!  We are almost to the campground!

We arrived in Denver yesterday around 11 a.m.   Actually, we are in Aurora, CO.  It is the city that had that terrible movie theater shooting last year.

This campground is great!  It is a Poo Free Park for one thing.  BOL!   This poo bag dispenser is close to our site.  We have learned that using the bags that the parks have is a nice money saver for us.

There are actually more people here than we expected.  The sites are large though and no one will be next to us.  We found some other sites that we thought were prettier, but this one works fine for us.

Our site for the next few weeks.

Look at all the space!
You should see all the area to walk.  Mama says I am going to walk my paws off.  Last night, we walked on this path.  We made a left turn on it last night, but it looks like if we turn right, we will go for miles!  We are going to do that either today or tomorrow.

Mama says I am like an engine.  I just go and go and go.  I don't even sniff.  I am focused on seeing everything around me.

This is a nice site.  The city is just over the hill.

Our rig.
This morning, we saw about eight deer.  We have not seen any bear or mountain lions.  We don't think we really have to worry about them because we are basically in the city.

We just have to walk over this bridge to get to our rig.
Scout is very happy here.  She likes the cooler weather.  Scout is like me in that we are always happy when we stay in a new location.  Mama says when we stay longer than a few weeks that I become stubborn on our walks and only want to go the way I want to go.

This is a great place for us and we are very happy to be in Colorado for the next month.

Home Again - Part 3

Well, we just realized that we didn't finish telling you about the rest of our trip home.  I don't know if we even remember the res...
