The New Recliners Have Arrived!

Mom has been stalking the delivery of our two recliners for the past week.  They both shipped from North Carolina on the same day but when they made a stop over in Georgia, only one went on to Texas.  A few days later the second chair left Georgia and made its way to Texas. Mom was a little nervous but she was happy when they both ended up at the Houston facility.

Mom had planned on donating our old chairs to a thrift store here that also does pick up of items.  Unfortuntely, they were not able to pick up the old chairs this week.  She checked around but all the places that pick up items for a fee were too expensive.  She did not want to pay $375 for the pick up of the chairs, so she went to Plan C which was for her and Dad to take the chairs to Goodwill.

Yesterday, Dad decided that they should go ahead and try to get the chairs out of the unit since rain was predicted for today.  He was concerned that they might have trouble getting the chairs out in one piece.  Recliners easily come apart but ours had slip covers over them and Dad had them tied on good and he really didn't want to have to remove the covers and take the chairs apart.  In the end, the folks were able to get the chairs out our door without too much trouble.  They then put the first chair on the back of the van and took it to Goodwill. They made two trips to Goodwill and the twin chairs confused the workers but it all worked out and was much easier than Mom expected.

The recliner being strapped down by Dad.  My bed is at the top of the recliner  It is being used to keep the recliner from scratching the van.

This morning, Mom washed our rugs. We have Ruggables which are nice because they can be washed in a regular washing machine. She then used a steam mop to clean our floors.  She was really busy and sweaty.

Our chairs arrived around 10 a.m.  Mom really likes the color of the chairs.  They are a little stiff right now, but she said they will be better in a few days.  She is working on breaking hers in right now. She is tired from moving chairs and cleaning.

Our new Ashley Recliners and our freshly laundried Ruggables rug.

Mom is very happy with how easy it was to get the new chairs from Amazon.  She chose a delivery time when she placed her order and it never changed.  It was a good experience.

The Challenges Of Buying Furniture During A Pandemic

We live in a very small place.  We only have two recliners, a desk chair, a bed and two chairs that live on the balcony.  When the pandemic started, Mom told Dad that their recliners were going to be worn out before it ended.  It hasn't ended but the chairs are pretty worn out. Dad has a pillow that he puts under his butt for comfort.  Last week, Mom was sitting in her recliner and we heard a loud noise that we thought was in the kitchen, but it was her chair!  It sounded like something exploded!  It turns out it was a spring that came off the chair.  We only found part of it. It must have been connected to the foot rest because now it just pops open when she sits down. She says it is less work.  😂

Mom has been searching for new recliners on and off for about a year.  She found some she liked at Sam's Club a few years ago and she hoped she could buy them, but the store doesn't have them and she was scared to buy a chair that she hadn't sat in. She thinks she found the chairs on their website but the reviews are terrible.  She looked at the local furniture store several months ago, but she didn't like anything.

If you have shopped for furniture, you know that most places do not have anything in stock.  We have been told the wait is about eight weeks.  Grandma said she was told six months. 😦

Last week, Mom started looking again.  She decided to look at Amazon.  She really didn't think she would find anything she liked and she really didn't want to buy a chair that she hadn't tried out.  She was surprised to find a chair that she liked and it was an Ashley Furniture chair.  Mom checked the Ashley Furniture website and they showed the same chair.  Mom called the store and asked if they had it on display and they said they did.  The folks left the Island and drove the 1/2 hour to the store.  There was a line of salesmen waiting at the door.  Mom showed them the chair on her phone that she wanted to see.  The salesman looked it up and then escorted the folks to the chair. The chair was not the same color and it included a massager and a heater but the man said it was the same chair.  The folks both sat it in and they liked it.  The salesman said they could order it in our color and it would take about eight weeks.  It was $150 more than Amazon.  The folks said they needed to think about it.

The folks decided to order the chairs from Amazon.  Easy, right?  WRONG!  Mom put the two recliners in her cart and when she tired to check out, it said they couldn't deliver to us.  Mom tried it several times.  She put Grandma's address in and it said the same thing so it wasn't that they wouldn't deliver to the Island. Grandma lives a few states away from us. Mom then tried the same chair in a different color and there were no problems with that chair.  Mom didn't want that color though.  She decided to see if the problem would fix itself, but four days later, she still couldn't order it.  She then decided to chat with Amazon.  She thought that would be an ordeal but the representative said he showed they could deliver to us.  He told her to clear her cache and cookies and try again.  It still didn't work.  He said it must be a glitch in their system.  Mom figured at that point she could just call and place and order but decided to wait. She started having second thoughts.  She was also aggravated that clearing all the cookies and caches also cleared her passwords and she had to figure those out again. Four days later and she is still finding issues.

Throughout the week, Mom kept watching the recliners on Amazon and the number of available kept going down so she knew that people were ordering them, but we still could not.  Last night, it said they were down to six, so Mom decided to try it again and guess what? She was able to place the order!  Our new recliners are scheduled to be here next Thursday.  They have already shipped.

I sure hope they like the new recliners. They can be returned but we really don't want to go through all of that.  We also have to get rid of our current chairs.  We can't do that until the new ones arrive and then we have to do it immediately because we don't have room for four chairs.  It will all work out.

I will post a photo once the new chairs arrive.

Santa Needs His Hearing Checked

I asked Santa for a guinea pig.  He gave me a pig.  They are not the same thing, Santa.  I think I already have a pig like this.  I need to check my toy box.  Disappointing!

We haven't been around much.  Mom has been sick with a cold, allergies or sinus issues.  She is not quite sure.  Her biggest problem the last few days has been low energy.  She finally started feeling better yesterday and took Buddy out for a ride. Yes, she went out on Christmas Eve. She said the traffic wasn't bad at all.  I thought we had turned the corner on illness, but now Dad is sick.  I am really getting tired of all this coughing, sneezing and blowing noses.  It really interrupts my day.

We had a change in weather last Saturday.  We dropped over 50 degrees in just a few hours.  It was crazy!  We had wind chills in the single digits.  Mom said it was worse in Missouri and elsewhere.  I wore my coat and boot.  Mom wore a hoodie under her coat along with gloves and a scarf.  Going outside took a while to get dressed, so I made sure that it was time well spent.  We walked like it was a nice day.  Nice and slow.  BOL!   This weekend, it is nice and warm - 70's. The AC is running today.

Mom got a really bad haircut almost two weeks ago at Great Clips.  She asked to just have her hair trimmed and shaped up. Well, the girl either was inexperienced or decided to be creative. She cut off 2" on one side giving Mom a shag.  Remember Carol Brady?  Yeah, that was Mom's cut on one side.  She didn't even measure when cutting.  It was whack, whack, whack.  The first cut did the most damage. Another stylist had to come in and try and fix it. The bad stylist kept shooting daggers at Mom while her hair was being "fixed".  At the end, Mom lost 3" and was told it was all that could be done until it grows.  Mom is still pretty upset about it.  She is trying to decide if she needs to cut off more of her length to make it look right or just keep wearing hoodies.  She complained about the haircut and is supposed to get a coupon for a free haircut.  She hasn't received it yet.  It probably is not coming. She isn't planning on ever going back there, but Dad said he would use the coupon.

Want to hear another complaint?  Mom ordered a candy thermometer from Amazon.  It was supposed to get here last Friday.  The tracking said it was out for delivery.  Then, it said there was a delay.  Friday night, Amazon called and put Mom on a conference call with the supervisor of the driver.  He said the package had been lost in the vehicle, but was now found.  He asked if she needed it delivered Friday night.  It was close to 8 p.m., so Mom asked if they could deliver it on Saturday. The supervisor said that yes, they would deliver it on Saturday.  Mom said that was fine.  Well, they didn't deliver it on Saturday.  They scheduled it for Monday!  Grrrr!  Mom needed it for Sunday.  She called and explained the conversation of the night before that they recorded, but the best they could do was Monday.  Mom cancelled it and ordered it through Prime Now and had it within two hours.  Why couldn't they have done that?

Okay, for some fun stuff.  This is how we decorated this year.

Our flag is two-sided.

Mom decorated our windows this year.

You can still see our neighbors' appliances.

Those people are a reflection of our TV.
Snowman changes colors.

Our greyhound ornaments.

Tree we bought in Lancaster County.

We also put a bow and "Merry Christmas" on our front door, but we haven't been able to get a good picture of it.

Mom will probably put all our decorations back in the shoe box tomorrow.  BOL!

The folks have reservation at Mom's favorite steak place here, but I am not sure they are going since Dad is sick.  We may just have nachos.

Friday night's sunset.

Living The Quiet Life

Life is pretty slow and peaceful here.  The campground is supposed to be sold out today with people in overflow parking. 16 RVs are scheduled to come in today.  Yikes!   Imagine our surprise when someone moved in right next to us yesterday.  We didn't even think it was really a spot.   Mom and I always sit in the shade along the well house, but we couldn't do that today because it would actually be in the neighbor's yard.  I still thought I should be allowed to be there, but Mom said no.  She explained that the new people's RV was giving us a shade on our site, but I still wanted my old spot back.

A man yesterday said that I was not skinny like other greyhounds.  Mom told him I have been retired for six years.  I wanted to ask him how long he has been retired because it definitely looks like more than six years.  BOL!

What can I say?  I am cute!

Not a very good photo of the hot air balloons.  They fly over quite often.
Dad finally got new glasses on Saturday.  He got no-line bifocals.  He has tried the lined kind twice and couldn't get used to them.  He still says he will never be able to see things clearly without moving his head.  Mom keeps telling him to give it time.  She didn't have any problems when she got hers. While the folks were waiting for Dad's glasses, they ate lunch. (see photo)

Mom's burger.  She said it was really, really good.
On Sunday, the folks went out for breakfast. They went to buffet.  Mom said it was okay.  They then came home and picked me up so that I could go to the park.  We went to a different one this week.  There was a path along the creek, but it was a big gravel path.  I doubt we will go back.  It was not fun to walk on.

Mom wanted a photo of me.  I didn't cooperate.

Okay, is this better?

I get tired of pictures.
After the park, we came home and rested.  The folks went to another buffet for dinner.  Mom said it was okay, but not worth $23.95  They found one that is several miles away that is really good.  Mom said when they arrived there, they were asked if they had been there before. They said no.  The waitress told them to pace themselves.  BOL!  I bet they go back to that one.

A sunbeam!

Relaxing in the afternoon.  We keep it dark inside to keep it cool.
Mom is still going strong with her air fryer.  Monday, she made a molten chocolate cake.  I didn't get to taste it since it was chocolate, but it smelled good.  Last night, she made pickle brined fried chicken and a double baked potato.  I think she may fix vegetables in it tonight.  She bought what she says is an "awesome" cookbook and has been trying out recipes.   It is called Air Fry Everything.  It is currently only available on QVC but Amazon will ship orders in December.   It has easy, every day recipes.

Pickle Brined Fried Chicken and Double Baked Potato.

One of our neighbors.
There are pumpkins in the field.  We watched them harvest some last week.
The Hershey RV Show started today. We think that is why our park is sold out.  We are not that close to Hershey, but people do come from all over to attend the RV show.  The folks are going Sunday. Mom would prefer to go during the week, but Dad has to work.

All Is Quiet

Six of our neighbors have moved out and one new one has moved in.  The people who have been next to use for two months moved to a lake site this morning.  There is no one on either side of us or in front of us.

The people who are going to install our screens are supposed to be here today.  Mama has her doubts.  We hope they show up.

You may have noticed that we now have some Amazon banners on our site.  Mama orders from them all the time and decided to become an affiliate.  They reviewed our blog and accepted us!  If you are placing an order with them anyway, please come to our site and click on the search link to find your item. It is on the sidebar. Mama says any money that is made will go to us!  Mama is going to keep the one link updated with her favorite things. Remember when Mama organized all her photos?  Well, she ordered the organizer from Amazon.  She has it listed in the "I Recommend" widget which is also on the sidebar.  We won't "hound" you about buying things, but if Mama buys something she really likes, she will list it on the sidebar and maybe that will wet your appetite.  BOL!

Our camera and computer are not cooperating with each other today, so here are a few photos from last year.  This is when we were in Naples, FL.

It was really pretty there, but a little bit too ritzy for us.  One person here thinks we are "showdogs".  I thought Mama was going to fall over laughing.

I think Mama was thinking of this when she thought it was funny that we were called "showdogs".
Mama has updated her restaurant blog with a few more reviews.  Smashburger is one of her favorite places.
