Dad Is Headed Home!

Do you know what that means?  It means that we need to clean.  BOL!

Mama left early this morning for a doctor's appointment.  She HATES going to the doctor.  She did receive some good news. The doctor said she lost nine pounds and she is at her 2008 weight.  Mama said it sounds like she is a boxer or something being at her 2008 weight.  BOL!   Mama told the doctor that she gives me credit for her weight-loss because of all the walking that we do.  If she lost nine pounds in five months, she should be able to loose 18 pounds in a year if we are living in the RV full-time, don't you think?  The doctor said that she feels it is easier to loose weight by increasing exercise than by cutting back on food. That means that Mama can keep eating her beloved potato chips. BOL!

Mama told the doctor we were going to be living in the RV full-time and she looked at her like she had two heads. Oh, well, it's not a lifestyle that everyone can appreciate.

The doctor asked Mama how she got the terrible bruise on her leg.  Mama explained to her that she was unhooking the Wii last week and she got stuck behind the TV cabinet and she freaked out. She didn't have her cell phone in her pocket, so she thought she might be stuck back there for days until someone found her. She squeezed her way out, but she bruised up her leg big time.  It was silly to get that scared, but that is what happened.

Mama stopped at McDonalds to celebrate her weight-loss. She then got the oil changed, had prescriptions filled and did a little other shopping.  We watched Days Of Our Lives and now it is time to clean.  I don't know why we have to clean for Dad, but Mama said our "vacation" is over and we need to look more presentable.  It won't last. The house will be dirty again in 24 hours. BOL!

Me And You And The Greyhounds, Too

Do you remember the song called Me And You And A Dog Named Boo?  Mama sings it to me all the time. She's strange. Now, she has started singing her own version.  However, she has only changed a few things on it.  I guess she is not very talented. She has been trying to put the pigman in it, but for now, we just sing the third verse

Third verse:

 I'll never forget the day
We motored into Houston. (definitely doesn't fit, but we haven't been to L.A. like the song says)
The lights of the city are settlin'
Down in my brain
Though it's only been a month or so
That old motor home is buggin' us to go
We've gotta get away and get back on
The road again

Me and you and the greyhounds, too
Travellin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and the greyhounds, too
How I love being free!

We recently joined an RV club called Escapees.  They have get togethers, classes, offer discounts, etc. They send out a bi-monthly magazine called Escapees, Sharing the RV Lifestyle In the May/June magazine there there was an article that Mama said summed up how we feel.  Here is just part of it.

"Those of us who choose the RV lifestyle feel a house is only a gilded cage surrounded by a fence and filled with as much stuff as we can afford. For some of us, the size of the home doesn't matter as long as it is on wheels. It provides with with security we need plus the ability to see new places, make new friends and discover how people in different places live.

Boxer (this was a pet mouse that the article talked about) was safe, petted and well fed in his cage.  Yet as soon as he was given a chance to roam free, he never came back to that security.  The same can be said of many who choose the full-time RV lifestyle. A taste of  freedom is all it takes for some of us.

Because we don't all enjoy the same things, sometimes it is difficult to understand loved ones whose choices are different, but that should not keep us from applauding the accomplishments we each have made.  We must care about and support people for who they are--not who we wish they were. No amount of either security or freedom will cure the ache in your heart if you live your life the way someone else thinks you should."

Scout Got In Trouble

I have to tell you something that Scout did the other night. Look, if I had done what she did, she would be writing this post about me.  Let me set the scene.  Mama was sitting on the couch eating dinner.  Yes, she is bad and eats on the couch especially since Dad isn't home.  I wanted to go outside.  She put her plate of spaghetti on the end table.  She looked at Scout who was laying on the other end of the couch.  She smiled at her and thought "It sure is nice that I can trust Scout not to get into my food.  She is a good girl."  You probably can guess what happened.  Mama walked back into the room and Scout was slurping up the spaghetti.  Mama yelled "SCOUT!" and a meatball flew to the ground. Scout had spaghetti hanging from her mouth but not for long because "slurp" and she sucked it all in.  Scout ran to the bedroom to pout and Mama threw her dinner away.  I would have never done such a thing.  You know why?  Because Mama wouldn't have trusted me with a plate of spaghetti.  BOL!

Bugs!

Friday morning, we woke up to a swarm of bugs in our kitchen and bathroom. They were very small things that were flying around.  They mainly stayed on our sliding door in the kitchen and in our bathroom. Mama kept smashing them with her hands, but more kept appearing.  She figures she killed at least 40 that way.  She tried to figure out what they were from pictures on the Internet.  She thinks they were flying ants.  She emailed Dad about it.  He told her to find their trail.  She couldn't.  She sprayed ant spray all around the outside of the patio door and all around our deck and around the windows.  Mama's BFF suggested getting some fly strips. It wouldn't keep them from coming in, but it would kill the ones inside.  Mama did that. The strips have a lot of dead bugs on them.  The number of new bugs yesterday was small and so far this morning, we haven't seen any new ones.   Could it just have been a swarm of bugs that hatched and ended up inside our house?  We don't know.  Maybe Mama sprayed their nest and killed them.  As long as they don't reappear, we are happy.

Friday afternoon, Mama went to lunch with Grandma and Aunt Pam.  They ate at a place in Union, MO called Junie Moon Cafe.   It is a cute place with a lot of decorations on the walls.  It has a warm feeling to it. The staff was very nice.

Mama ordered a BBQ Cheeseburger and coleslaw as her side. They make their own chips, but she wanted coleslaw.
BBQ Cheeseburger and coleslaw. The bread is definitely unique.
Mama said the sandwich was good.  The BBQ sauce was a little on the heavy side.  The coleslaw was creamy, but lacked taste which was odd.  The bread was very light.  It was a good meal.

Grandma and Aunt Pam both ordered a salad and onion soup.  They liked their food.  Grandma had blackberry cobbler for dessert and Aunt Pam had Cinnamon Bread Pudding.  They both said dessert was good.  They took leftovers home.  Mama did not because she ate all her food.  Oink!

Friday night, Mama missed Dad's phone call.  She was taking photos of us with her cell phone and her phone didn't ring because of that.  Mama was bummed after that.  Dad later asked what we were doing that was so cute. We were laying next to each other.  Actually, I was trying to get a bully stick from Scout and she laid on top of it to hide it from me.

One of the photos that caused Dad's phone call to be missed.
Yesterday, Mama went shopping for yarn.  She wants to make a tree skirt for our Charlie Brown Christmas tree.  She finally found what she wanted at the fourth stop.  She stopped at Ponderosa for lunch.  She said it is easier eating at a buffet by yourself than at a regular restaurant.  She came home in the afternoon and we just chilled the rest of the day. It was nice.

Just A Few More Days....

....and Dad will be home.  Mama said we will really be busy when he gets home.  We need to do a lot of house repairs before we can list our house. We have vehicles to sell. The folks have to visit the doctor and visit relatives.  It's going to be crazy!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes.  My day was nice.  Mama left us in the morning to go to the library sale.  She arrived three minutes after it started and it was shoulder to shoulder people.  She said people were pushing boxes of books around with their feet.  It was really hard to look, but she did find a treasure.  One of her goals for this winter was to learn Spanish.  Well, she found two learning Spanish sets. They include cassette tapes and books.  She couldn't remember if she still had a cassette player, but for $1 total, she couldn't pass it up.  There was a German one too, but she didn't get it and she probably should have.  It was gone when she turned around.  She was happy when she checked the motor home and found that it does have a cassette player as well as a CD player.  It looks like we will all be learning Spanish this winter.  Have you seen the car commercial with two guys who put a Spanish learning CD in the player and after hours and hours on the road, they finally stop for gas and they are speaking Spanish?  We could be like them when we arrive in Houston.  LOL   Okay, back to my birthday.  I spent the afternoon lounging on the couch.  Then, at 4 p.m., Mama announced we were going to Pizza Hut!  The ride was great!  I had a few pizza bones, but the ride was the best.  I ended my evening by chewing on some bully sticks.  Yep, it was a good day.
