We are in DC!

We arrived in Washington DC last night. Actually, we are in College Park, MD which is close to DC.  We had a pretty easy trip, no problems. Our gas stops all went well unlike our trip to Texas.  I would like to say it's because the folks are more experienced now, but part of it depends on how crowded the gas stations are and how easy they are to get in and out. We only stop at travel centers, but they are not always RV friendly even though they should be.

We hit heavy traffic in Virginia. If there was a car on the side of the road it caused a standstill. We hit big jams several times during our last 100 miles.
Virginia Traffic

I love our campground!  Mama says it is rated #2 in Best Parks of America.  There is so much activity here.  Mama says I am over-stimulated. Today, she decided I needed to wear my harness because I was pulling way too much. I am acting much better now.

The campground is really a resort. Mama says it is perfect for families.  They have a bus depot here so the buses come here to pick people up for tours or to take them to metro stations.  There is a nice store that has camping things as well as souvenirs. There is also miniature golf, a spray park, basketball court, several playgrounds, nature trail, cafe, outdoor movie theater, hot tub, sauna, game room, exercise room, free Cable TV, free Wi-Fi, TV lounge area and they have a DOG PARK!  Actually, there are two! This place is huge!  We still haven't seen it all.

Each day they offer an informational sightseeing session to help the campers learn how to get around DC. Mama is going to attend tomorrow's session.  They really make things easy here.

Oh, Boy!  Look at this place!

Turtles are all over.

Tractor rides are offered free every night.

At the dog park.

Turtles are even in the dog park.  Dad says it is a hazard.

Fire hydrant is also a hazard to running dogs.  We haven't run yet though.

I love being off leash again!

Another view from the dog walk.

And one more view from the dog walk.
We still haven't walked the nature trail. It goes through the woods. It's 1.5 miles.  Does anyone know if we need to worry about Lyme Disease in this area from ticks?  Haven't had any ticks yet, but Mama wonders if it is okay for us to go on the nature trail.

I am having the best time here!!!!

Get Ready DC, We Are On Our Way!

Dad and I wanted to have the title read "Peeing Our Way Across The South", but Mama said "No" to that.  We traveled through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and stopped in South Carolina and peed in every state.  The rest stop in Mississippi was just a parking spot with lots of weeds. I guess the economy has hurt them and they have closed rest areas. Alabama had a nice rest area. An ambulance came while we were there and checked out a guy. We think he was just trying to take a nap on a picnic table.  He had a pillow and his radio.  We stopped in Georgia at a gas station and checked it out. It was nice.  Actually, there was no one else there. It was the easiest gas stop we have had. So far, we have not had any issues at gas stations. We just filled up this morning and we just have to make one more gas stop and we will be in DC.

A Stuffed Money on the back of a truck.

A neat cloud.  It looked pink and blue.

Georgia Welcome sign

Missed the sign in South Carolina.

We left at 7 a.m. and arrived at our campground at 8 p.m.  The folks forgot about the time change, so that is why it was 8 p.m.and not 7 p.m. as planned. We didn't eat dinner until 8:45 p.m.   Mama wasn't thrilled about that.  If we were traveling on our own schedule, we wouldn't be on the road for 12 hours. We just need to get there.  Mama microwaved a Jack Daniels' BBQ Shredded Beef for dinner and said it was delicious. We didn't have any.

The RV park we stayed at last night was for SENIORS over 45. LOL   Mama didn't know she was a senior. Dad was all excited about staying there. It was a let down though.  The campground itself was nice and open, but the sites were not very nice.  We barely saw it though, so no big deal.  The map shows they have trails and a lake. It looks like the long term people have a nicer area than what we did.

Area for campfire

Big open field to play in.

Swing under big tree.  There were a few of these.

Another view of the swing.
There was a big dog show nearby and all the people next to us had show dogs. The one guy said they had nine Golden Retrievers in his motor home. He has a toy hauler and the dogs were all in crates.
This is the camper that had 9 dogs inside.  They have 3 more dogs at home.

We are currently in North Carolina making our way to Virginia. We should be stopping around 5 p.m., if all goes well.

On The Road Again!

We left the RV park around 1 p.m. yesterday.  We had a few hiccups before we left. We had trouble getting the slides to come in. Dad thinks it was a loose wire. He also said we need to replace the batteries in the RV.  It is not the same battery that is in the engine.  So, we finally got the slides to come in and then Dad asked Mama if she had put the cutting board away.  He knew that she stored it along the slide in the kitchen. That is fine as long as it is removed before the slide is brought in. Well, she had left it there. They were able to get it out, but then they saw a cookie sheet. The cookie sheet was much harder to remove and took a while.  You don't want anything in the way of the slide.  It can damage the slide.  Finally, we were on our way.  Mama was nervous driving through Houston because there is so much traffic. She was relieved when we finally crossed the Louisiana state line.
Our last walk by the fire house in Houston.

We are out of Texas!

Traveling is tiring!

We are escorted to our campsite.

The lake at the camground.

Come on Mama!  We need to walk!

The campground is nicely decorated.

Me and Dad.

Our site.  See the picnic table. It turns into a bench.
The campground was nice.  It is mainly just travel after trailer. There was supposed to be an enclosed dog park, but we couldn't find it. It was dark by the time we explored last night and this morning, we didn't see it either. It wasn't on the map that they gave us.There is a nice path around the lake. Mama said we had to watch for alligators, but we never saw any.  We just saw birds.

I woke Mama up at 3:30 a.m. because I wanted to go exploring. She told me to go back to bed. She tried sneak into the shower at 5:15 a.m., but I wouldn't let her. I wanted to go for a walk.  I won!

We left this morning at 7 a.m.   We will spend the night in South Carolina.

Bye Houston! It's Been Fun!

Our travel collars are on. We are leaving Houston today. Dad has to work a half a day and then we will take off. We will spend the night in Livingston, LA. The campground has an enclosed dog area. We hope we can play off leash. It really depends on if Mama thinks it is secure enough for us.

Our stay in Houston has been a nice one. The campground was spacious. There was a lot of places for us to walk. We had two lakes that we could walk around. There was one that we could only look at for some reason. We took a few dips in the lake last week. It was my first time, but Scout is a pro at laying in water.

Views from the lake last night.

Everyone told us we would be so hot in Houston, but it was hotter at home almost the entire time. We picked a good year to leave home it appears.

Last night we had Pizza Hut. It was good this time.  Mama ordered  half Meat Lovers and half Supreme minus the green peppers.  She received a free order of Stuffed Pizza Rollers.  They have cheese and pepperoni in them.

She thought the pizza rollers were okay.

We will try and update you from the road to let you know we are okay. Traveling makes us very tired, so our updates may be very brief.

Pizza Man Is Coming Tonight!

Today is our last full day in Houston.  Mama woke up this morning thinking we were leaving today. She is all confused because she moved everything she planned to do this week up by a day. It's a good thing she did because she planned on grocery shopping tonight, but decided to change it in case Dad worked late tonight. Well, he is going to be late. They are having a good bye party for a guy and they are including Dad.  Since Dad is not going to be home and he didn't tell Mama until after she got home from grocery shopping, she decided she will order pizza tonight.

We actually had Pizza Hut on Sunday night.  Mama was disappointed in it.  She ordered that new pizza that is made with their garlic bread. She didn't like it.  She couldn't taste the garlic on the bread and it had too much sauce.
Garlic Bread Pizza
She also ordered a Cheese Lovers with pepperoni and mushrooms.  It tasted like it had cinnamon on it.
Cheese Lovers with pepperoni and mushrooms.
Mama hadn't planned to order from them again, but they deliver and we need dinner tonight. Hopefully, the pizza will be better tonight.  She has always loved Pizza Hut.

A couple that has been here since February left today.  It was a little sad to seem them go.  Mama told her that I blogged and she thought it was funny. Funny?  Yes, she asked what I could possibly write about. Mama told her I write about all the happenings in the campground. Her eyes got really big.  I think that made her nervous. LOL

Preparing To Leave Houston - Two More Days

We started getting things ready to leave on Sunday.  Dad secured the awning.  He took the tire covers off and put those away. The BBQ is stored underneath the motor home.  He tested the generator and it was running rough.  That is not good. We run the generator when we are on the road so that the air conditioners can run just like if we were parked in a site. He then tested the air conditioner and it wouldn't come on with the generator. The transfer switch has worked on and off since we have been traveling.  Dad bought a new one in May, but since it started working again, he didn't install it.  Sunday evening was spent installing it. There are several things that are housed under the folk's bed and that is one of them.  Mama had to hold up the bed while Dad crawled under it and installed the transfer switch.  It works now. Dad worked on the generator Monday night and it seems better.

Mama shampooed the carpet yesterday.  We have a SpotBot and she uses the hose to clean the carpet.  The hose broke, so she had to use duct tape to put it back together.  It worked pretty good.  Then she cleaned the dash. Rumor has it that we are shedding a lot.  I think we are shedding the same amount as normal but we in a much smaller space, so it just looks like it's more hair because it is piled up.

This morning, Mama washed all the bedding including our sheets. Our sheets get washed quite often since we seem to shed so much. The sheets cover the big bed that we share. Well, we don't really share it.  We have a divided between us.  Mama will do the rest of the laundry tomorrow. That will make three days this week that she has been in that laundry room. The air conditioner is supposed to be fixed tomorrow, but she will be done before it is fixed. She does it so early in the morning that it is not a big deal. She will miss the $1 a load that they charge here.
Life is good!
The spread is freshly laundered and I need to break it in.
Tonight, Mama is going grocery shopping.  She has to buy some quick and easy meals for our travels.  We know from past experience that we are very tired after driving all day.  We won't unhook the car from the motor home on Friday and Saturday nights, so we need to have food that Mama can just heat in the microwave.

Sunday, the folks ate lunch at Pallotta's Italian Grill.   It is a nicely decorated place.  They do not have TVs hanging on the walls.  Can you believe that?  There were a lot of families eating there. They ordered fried mozzarella sticks as an appetizer.  They were hand rolled and came with garlic bread.  Mama said she was full after eating that. It was very good.  She ordered lasagna which came with a salad.  The lasagna had the thinnest pasta that she has ever seen.  She liked it, but it did get a little mushy.  Dad ordered The Benjamin.  It had shrimp and spicy sausage with pasta.  He said it was good.  There are pictures, but they are on Dad's phone.  Mama's phone battery was dead.   That was the last restaurant that they will visit here. It is kind of sad.  Mama just saw a commercial for Luby's.  They never made it there.

I'm a little sad that we are leaving Houston.

What?  I look dreamy in this picture?

New Dogs In Our Neighborhood

Yesterday morning, my Gotcha Day, a dog charged at me and Mama.  It was a miniature schnauzer.   I know that is a small dog, but you should have seen him coming at us. He ran at full speed and was barking like crazy.  Mama yelled at him to "GET, GO HOME, GET!"  He didn't have a collar on, so Mama didn't know if he was a stray.  I decided I was tired of these little dogs scaring us, so I kicked off my boot to show him I was ready to rumble.  Well, when I kicked off my boot, it flew over his head and he thought I was throwing a toy at him. He went after my boot.  It was at that time that his Mom came out and said "Miles, Miles"  Miles didn't listen to her at all.  She said "sorry" to us.  Mama said "He charged us."  No response from Miles Mom.  Mama put my boot back on me and we left.  Miles Mom was still trying to catch him as we walked away.  Grrrr!  I actually like when dogs bark at me.  I just whine.  I whine when I am excited.  Mama doesn't like when they chase us.

Later in the day, a new person moved into the RV park.  They have a little bitty camper.  They left for a while, but their dog was still in the camper.  We walked by not knowing there was a dog in the camper.  The dog started banging on the window and barking. He was banging so hard that Mama thought he was going to break the glass or cause the camper to roll forward since he was rocking it so hard.  Mama said we needed to stay away from him because she didn't want him to get hurt.  However, he barked at everyone who walked by and even at us when we were way down the street.  Several of his neighbors were talking about him last night and I think they told his owner how he acted because his blinds are closed today.

There are two other new dogs here, but we don't know which campers they live in.  They are leashed, so that is good.

This morning, Mama decided to shampoo the carpet.  The job would have been easier if the hose on the SpotBot hadn't broke.  She used some duct tape on it and was able to finish the job.  Our carpet looks much better now.

Saturday night the folks ate at Crabby Daddy's.  It was Dad's choice. Mama had read reviews that the portions were small and pricey and that the service was not good.  She wanted to have steak, but the steak was $30. She decided that was too much since it wasn't a steak house and she didn't want to take a chance on it not being good.  It was a little out of her budget, too.  She ordered a hamburger instead.  The menu wasn't clear what came with the meals.  She thought she might have to order fries on the side, but it came with those. Mama said the burger was delicious!  The fries had sea salt and pepper on them and they were also very good.  The menu said the bun was toasted with butter and garlic, but she couldn't taste the garlic.
Classic Burger $9.99
Dad's Meal - Monterrey Shrimp Brochette $18.99
Dad's meal was jumbo shrimp stuffed with pepper jack cheese, fresh jalapenos, and wrapped in bacon served over seasoned white rice and mixed vegetables.   He said the white rice was not seasoned.  He was not impressed with it.  Mama thought she got a lot more food for the money. The service was good, but it was hot inside the restaurant.

Sometimes I want to hide from the world.

Just chilling on the couch.
You know how they say that everything is bigger in Texas?  Well, you should see the mosquitoes!  They are huge!  We are having a problem with them now since there is still standing water everywhere. We are ready to leave Texas.
