Somewhat Disappointing House Tour & Buddy Gets A New Look

Sunday, the folks toured the Glidden House.  This house was owned by Joseph Glidden.  He invented barbed wire or at least is credited with it.  The folks toured Ellwood House a few weeks ago.  The man who owned that house became a partner of Joseph Glidden's.

The house sits among apartments and commercial structures.  It is easy to pass by. It is hard to imagine that when it was built, it was all alone on the road.

The house itself was very basic.  It was not at all like the Ellwood House. Dad said this house was built before Joseph Glidden became wealthy.  They were allowed to tour just a few rooms.  Photos were allowed.

He is trying to make a seahorse, but not having much luck.

The tour guide took this photo.  She said it would look really good.

She also took this photo.

This a Murphy bed.  It folds up.  It is the first time Mama has seen one that didn't fold into the wall.

The tour wasn't terrible, but it could have been better. The tour guide was very soft spoken and hard to understand at times. She didn't have a script and repeated herself many times.

Do you want to see Buddy's new look?

Isn't he cute?  Mama says it is a good thing she has a black scooter because if it was red, the nose of the greyhound would be red.  The decal is white and all the background color is Buddy.  We think it is perfect. The decal is from Skinny Hounds Designs.

Buddy's back rack arrived yesterday, but we don't have the right tool to install it.  We need a metric tool, so there will be a delay in getting it installed. When the back rack is installed, Mama can add a basket to it and then she can carry more shopping bags with her.  She only has storage under the seat now and that doesn't carry much.

Mama and Buddy went to town yesterday and they brought us back lunch.  Yum!

A Fun Car Museum?

Is there such a thing as a fun car museum?  Well, Mama would have told you "No" before yesterday.  Dad told her to find something fun for them to do this weekend, so she started researching the Rockford area.  She came across a car museum that received good reviews, so she looked at the website.  It is not just a regular car museum, it is a museum with cars from TV shows and movies as well as historic people.  The price is $12 a person, but frugal Mama, found a coupon.  BOL!

The folks set off yesterday morning for Lensing Historic Auto Museum.  It is also known as Historic Auto Attractions. The museum is actually located in Roscoe, IL which is near Rockford.

Instead of talking, I will show you some of photos that Mama took. She took over 80, but we will just show you a sample.

Wax figures of John Wayne and the cast of Bonanza. Some of the wax figures are scary looking.

Clint Eastwood

The car used in Bonnie and Clyde movie.

Car owned by Conway Twitty.
Piano from Gunsmoke.

Do you remember the Johnny Cash song One Piece At A Time?  This is the car that was built.  Mama likes that song because her Dad worked at General Motors in the parts division for nearly 30 years and he used to laugh at that song.  The song played in this section.
Colonel Sander's car.  He has a greyhound on the front.

Elvis exhibit.  Elvis music played in this section.
The car from Back To The Future.

Car from the movie Ghostbusters.

Costume that Christopher Reeve's wore.

Batman cars.

Car from Andy Griffith show.

Car is signed by some of the cast members.

MASH display.

Car from Vacation movie.

Aunt Edna is even on the roof.  BOL!

This truck actually belonged to Red Foxx.  Did you know that his real name was Fred Sanford? That's what the sign said.
This is  a piece of cake from JFK's birthday cake.  It is from the famous birthday where Marilyn Monroe sang to him.
There are exhibits from Gone With The Wind, Laurel & Hardy, John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, NASA, racing and many other things including items from the White House and clothing from Jacklyn Kennedy.  The folks both said it was a fun place to visit.  Mama said she felt like she rushed to see it all and probably could have stayed a lot longer.  Click on this link to take yourself of a tour through your computer.

Rockford is the home of the "sock monkey", so the folks stopped at that museum next.  However, they were having a special event, so the folks decided to come back at another time. That museum also has a display of the Rockford Peaches.  Remember them from A League Of Their Own?  Yep, Mama says they are planning another trip to Rockford.

Stuffy Update

All the stuffies except for one survived their trip in the washing machine/dryer.  The monkey came out without a voice.  Mama opened him back up and removed his bad squeakers and put new ones in him.  He is fine now!
Thanks, Mama for fixing my toys!
I love the ducks and hedgehogs the most!
Buddy is now officially licensed.  His license plate arrived on Saturday.  Do you know what it says?  It says "MOPED".  Mama laughed because that rude salesman told her a moped had to have pedals. Well, Big D (that is the name on his business card), in Texas mopeds do not have to have pedals and we have proof.  BOL!

Saturday, the folks bought a new helmet for Mama.  She thinks she looks like a cartoon character.  She says she looks like the martian that was on the Flintstones.  She's silly. She is not green.  BOL!  The helmet is a half helmet and has ear flaps that zip off on hot days.  It also has a visor.  It was more money than Mama wanted to spend, but it is comfy and Dad said that was very important.

Mama took Buddy to town today!  Yep, she did it!  She drove to the Family Dollar store, but once she got there, she decided to keep going.  She rode on some side streets and then decided to head into traffic.  She stopped at a stoplight and then cruised on down the hill towards our place.  She was doing 25 in a 30 and people started passing her. She said she was fine with that.  She would rather have them pass her than have them ride her butt.  Her first trip is out of the way and she is happy.

A Surprise On Our Walk This Morning

The weather has turned quite cool here.  :-)  It was so cool that Miss Scout decided she would join us on our second walk of the day.  I am glad she went because otherwise she would have missed what we encountered.
"What the heck?"

Do you see it?  Probably not.  We only had our cell phone with us.
It was two foxes chasing each other  They probably did at least five loops running all around.  We were pretty excited.  We have been pretty bummed about the lack of wildlife here.  There is like one squirrel, a lot of geese, a few ducks and the fake swans.  Yes folks, those swans are FAKE!  We noticed that they always stayed in the same spot and then we saw birds sitting on them.  BOL!

We laid in the sun after we returned from our walk.
Last night, Mama took the toys we had in storage out for us to check over.

We found that many of them needed repairs.  Since we have some toys that we don't play with, Mama decided to take their squeakers and fix the toys we like.

The squeaker donors.  Since the pig has 16 squeakers, we were able to save the other donors for later.
The squeaker recipients.  They were cut open, new squeakers were put in and then they were stitched back up.
Then the worst possible thing happened to them.
Yep, they took a spin in the washing machine. They are still in there.  GULP!

I Fit!

I Fit!  BOL!
We are having a beautiful day here except it is windy. They said tomorrow is supposed to be windy. They said nothing about wind today.  We hope they are wrong because if this isn't windy, we need to put some more weight in the motor home.  BOL! We are creaking like crazy today.  You should hear all the noises that this place is making.   It is definitely a day that awnings should not be used.

Mama walked to town this morning.  She went to an antique shop, a store with homemade items and the dollar store. The dollar store isn't really a dollar, it is $1.09 plus tax.  Mama bought a few things today.  The main reason she walked to town was so that she could eat at Riccardi's Red Hots and Soda Fountain again.  The folks ate there on Sunday and Mama fell in love with the place.  Dad has that rule were they don't repeat restaurants, so Mama will go on her own from now own.  BOL!  However, they have broken that rule here already. There is an all you can eat Chinese buffet and they have eaten there twice so far.

Inside Riccardi's Red Hots and Soda Fountain

Egg and Bacon Burger with fries and fried pickle spear
Today, Mama had the egg and bacon burger with fries and just one fried pickle spear as she didn't want a full order. She said it was good, but so messy with the egg.  She said she plans on becoming a regular customer.  The next time she hopes to ride Buddy there.  Yep, the license plate left Texas today and she hopes it will be here on Saturday.
