We Got Mail!

We waited impatiently for the mail to be delivered on Friday.  Actually, Mama waited impatiently.  We really didn't care.
The mail contained Christmas cards, magazines, a package for Dad from work and a book Mama ordered.
Mama has been waiting for the book to arrive for a few weeks. It is a book that shows short hikes in Houston. She ordered it through Amazon for $.49 plus shipping. It was $20 in the store.  She chose a seller located here in Texas thinking it would arrive faster. Well, the tracking had it stuck four hours from us and it said the delivery was anywhere from December 22 to January 9.  When Mama picked up her other mail, the park manager said she had another package.  He said "You have been overlooking it every time you come in here."  Don't you think he could have told her it was there if he saw her overlooking it?  Mama wonders about the park managers sometimes.

Last night, the folks went out to eat and did some shopping.  Mama was excited because she found the Snapple drink mix she has been trying to find.  She tried to order it online, but was not able to do so.  She found that the Walmarts here carry it and sure enough she found it.  She bought three boxes.

What did you bring us?   Mmmmm.....chicken marsala!

Oh, boy!  A new toy!

It's a snake!

Oh, boy!  It's just like my dog that I lost!

I love it!

Squeak, Squeak, Squeak.
We have had a nice weekend so far.  New toys and good food.  Life is good!

It's Mail Day!

Mama is excited because our mail is coming today. If you don't know, we use a mail forwarding service. It just so happens that it is in Texas.  Our real address is a Texas address.   All our mail is sent to this company and whenever we want, we request it to be sent to us. Since we have been on the road for a month, we have only requested our mail twice - every two weeks.  The last time, we really didn't get much.  This time, however, we think there will be magazines and Christmas cards.  Mama is really hoping that her Celebrating Greyhounds magazine is there. The postage was more this time, so there has to be more than the last time. Mama is excited.  We are very happy with the company so far.  It is part of the Escapees Club that we belong to and they offer very personal service.  Mama says they are very friendly.

Yesterday, Mama discovered apps to her favorite radio stations from home.  She put them on her tablet and now she can listen to things from back home. She has been listening to the app that has the police scanner from back home and she enjoys that.  It is not as good as her real police scanner, but it's a taste of home just the same.  She has set up her police scanner for here, but she doesn't find it to be quite as interesting.

It is a rainy day here.  If we didn't know better, it looks like it could snow.  We just got back from our walk. It really bothers us when dogs walk behind us.  Does it bother anyone else?  We have to keep turning around to see what they are up to. This morning, we just pulled off to the side to let the dog pass us.

Me chewing on a bully stick this morning.

Scout pouting because she wants the bully stick.
Mama started on a scarf yesterday.  She is making good progress. She decided that she needed one when the windchill was in the teens the other morning.  She wore her winter coat and gloves, but didn't have a scarf.  It is almost like we are living in the old days, isn't it?  Mama is waiting on our mail to be delivered and making a scarf to survive the winter.  LOL

The yarn is from our stay in Indiana.  It is blue, brown and cream.  Mama says it is so easy to use and very soft.
This is our toy box.  We broke out our bag of toys last week.  Mama thought I was bored, but I really just needed to pee.
The Emeals dinner last night was really good according to the folks.

Beef and Wild Rice Bake
It is made with ground beef, a box of wild rice, tomato soup and cheese.  Mama added more cheese on top, just because.  Dad said it would make a good burrito.

Tonight is grocery shopping night.  The folks are going to try the Super Target.  Tomorrow, they will look at motor homes again.

Quiet Day

There is not a whole lot going on here at the resort this week.  Several of the regulars are gone for the holidays.  We can tell they are coming back because they left some items such as BBQ grills and propane tanks on their sites.

Yesterday, we were out walking and the park manager got in a golf cart and chased us down.  He asked Mama if she was using bags.  Mama promptly showed him a full bag.  I guess she answered that question.  BOL!  They talked about many people not using bags.  Mama complained about the dog run being so nasty.  He agreed and said he doesn't know what to do about it.

Golf cart that was decorated for the holidays.
Many of the people have taken down their lights, including us. We still have our tree up.  Mama said we will take it down on New Year's Day or when the batteries die, whichever comes first.

Mama ordered our mail yesterday, so we should have it tomorrow.  We think we may have a Christmas card or two and hopefully some magazines.  Our bully sticks will be here on Monday!

Mama finally updated the restaurant blog.  She ate Greek food for the first time over the weekend.   Yia Yia Mary's Greek Kitchen.

Santa Left Us Money And We Spent It

Santa left us money this year.  We were kind of sad about it.  I was hoping for a new squeaky toy.  Mama said she was not impressed with the toys that the Petsmart has here.  I don't get that.  Doesn't Santa bring our toys?   It's things like that that make me wonder about life.  As I was saying, Santa left us money.  This morning, Mama said "Oh, Best Bully Stick is having a good sale!  Do you want to spend your money there?"  Well, you know we love bully sticks, so we gathered around the computer.  We ordered jumbo sized bully sticks, some jerky treats and some filled bones.  Mama then found a 10% off coupon.  She didn't think it would work, but it did.  The code is MODOGSUMMER12 if you want to give it a try.  Mama always looks for computers before she orders anything online.

Mama woke us up at 4 a.m. yesterday.  We thought it was Santa, but it was just Mama.  She wanted to get us outside before the storms hit.  We ended up not having storms which was good, but getting up at 4 a.m. was nuts.  We had rain for about an hour and, of course, it started when we were on a walk around 10 a.m.  We were trying to run home and Mama couldn't keep up.  We kept stopping to shake the rain off and then we would take off again dragging Mama along.  Dad said we were probably entertainment to a lot of people yesterday.

The folks went out for a late lunch yesterday.  The first plan was Chinese, but then Mama decided she wanted Italian. The Italian place had an one and half hour wait, so they had Chinese.

We had leftovers!  Can you guess what we had?
We had Chinese Turkey!  Do you know what that is?  Remember on A Christmas Story when they went out to dinner and they were served Chinese Turkey?

It is duck!  Dad ordered half a duck.  Mama said he did it because of that movie.

Mama had General Tso Chicken.  It had jalapenos in it.

The appetizer
The flame didn't show up in the picture taken with the camera, but did with the cell phone.
Inside Hu's Garden

Mama said there were many families eating out yesterday.  She said the place was really nice and the appetizer with the flame made for a fun Christmas meal.

Our day was in the 80's until around 4 p.m. and our temperatures dropped fast. The wind was really high.  I got scared and Mama thought it was due to the wind.  It was actually because our smoke alarm battery was dying and it beeped.  I am scared of the beep.  Is anyone else scared of beeps?

Today, our weather is cool, but the sun is out.  Our motor home heats up when the sun is out, so we will probably be able to turn off our heater later today.

We hope everyone had a nice holiday.  Happy Boxing Day to our friends who celebrate it.

Hiking With Alligators

Yesterday, Dad surprised us by taking us to a state park that is about an hour from our resort.  I was very excited that we were actually leaving our gated community.

"Oh boy!  This is going to be fun!"

Texas charges a fee of $7 per adult.  Greyhounds are free.

We decided to do an easy 1/2 mile walk around the lake.

Scout didn't want to go.  Was she scared of the alligators, venomous snakes or thinking there might be stairs?

She is asking Dad to take her back to the car.

Mama took charge of Scout and off we went.  Yes, I'm wearing my boot.  My foot still hurts from time to time.

Lots of birds.

More birds.  Mama really needs a new camera, but Santa is not bringing her one.

"Come on, Mama!"

Birds

Scout puts her foot where other animals have put theirs.

Dad said it was like the Animal Walk of Fame.  BOL!

Turtles

Turtle

Okay, enough turtles!

ALLIGATOR!

A view of the lake.
We saw all the creatures while just walking about the lake. It was pretty amazing.

An old Oak Tree
We went Geocashing, but we gave up and Dad found it without us.  He said it was pretty far back in the woods.  Mama said he was nuts to go that far back with the snakes, alligators and ticks.  We decided that Scout is not a geocashing dog and I am probably not either.

We had a fun time and we were very tired when we got home.

We were supposed to bake cookies with Mama today, but it is almost 80 degrees.  We are already running our air conditioning, so we will wait to use our oven for a day when it is colder like tomorrow afternoon.  We are supposed to get bad storms tomorrow morning and then it will turn cooler.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Cookie Baking Day

Okay, maybe it is not a true cookie baking day, but Mama did make a batch of peanut butter cookies.  Okay, maybe it wasn't a batch.  It was a dozen and they are the refrigerated ones.  She just put them in the oven.  It still created a nice smell in our RV.  Honestly, this is as close as we get to baking cookies these days. We don't even have a mixer.  It takes cookies two to three times as long as they are supposed to take to bake in our oven and we can only fit six on our cookie sheet, so it takes an hour to make a dozen.  BOL!  She said we will bake another dozen on Christmas Eve.

Mama had the car yesterday, so she went shopping. She didn't really buy anything exciting.  She ate at Five Guys and wasn't impressed. She had a cheeseburger, fries and a drink for $10. She had eaten at one in St. Louis and thought it was better.  She picked Dad up from work and they ate at Panda Express for dinner.  She was very impressed with the food.  She was so excited that she forgot to take pictures. Panda Express is a chain restaurant.  You choose your side item and then you can either have two or three entrees.  She chose fried rice as her side and Mushroom Chicken and Shanghai Angus Steak as her entrees.  She loved it all.  Dad had eaten at one in Kansas City and said he thought it was great. Mama definitely wants to go back.

Dad brought home a gift from work.  He told Mama to open it before they went grocery shopping so that they knew what snacks not to buy.

What could it be?  Cookies?

Yum!
Oh, I almost forgot.  Mama removed my corn yesterday.  She has tried many different things. She tried duct tape, creams, but what finally got rid of it?  She dug it out like Genji's Corner suggested.  It was really hard to see until recently when the growth of it took off.  She was getting ready to order the corn remover tool when someone on Greytalk said they used a cuticle pusher.  She bought one yesterday and now my corn is gone.  Mama was nervous, but I was a very good boy.  We know it will come back, but now we are more confident on removing them, so hopefully it won't take us so long the next time.  I am "bootless Joe" for now.  BOL!

Happy Saturday!
